it is always a good idea learning C before you do mel.. even if it is not the same most stuff especially variables handling is very similar..

and concerning strings especially.. i think one of the best resources are scripts by someone else that you examine..

have fun

learning C for doing some MEL scripting might be an overkill :)

again, the maya online manual has a chapter on MEL - it will teach you the basics

why doesn't anyone consider RTFM in the first place???

and here's a link to a site dedicated to mel specifically - http://www.ewertb.com/index.html

stuundman:

learning C helps a lot with the syntax of programming and style from my experience.. of yourse i did not mean to really dig deep into it.. but there are a lot good C books around that help you with the basics..

and concerning the RTFM.. you are so right and i think that more and more in the last time concerning a lot of topics posted here like: "what do i have to do, to create cool images in maya".

but in this special case i have to admit that the maya manuals handle mel really very roughly and if you have no idea about programming at all you will have a hard start..
but in most other cases:

RTFM :surprised
