View Full Version : my first attempt
datsun 10-14-2005, 04:07 AM HI
ive been hanging around here for some time admiring the work and decided to try my hand at it.i've played around in photoshop for years mainly doing logo's/siggy's and that kind of thing for people, but my wife bought me this cheap tablet and i thought i should maybe try using it.the cheapness of it shows in that you can't move the pen too fast or it doesn't keep up:eek: .
what i would really like is some advice on adding colour i had the same trouble at school i could sketch ok but when i added colour it ruined my pics:sad: .
anyway advice/crits welcome(just dont be too harsh pleaseeeee).

p.s. this is actually the second attempt because after an hour and a half in photoshop it froze for the first time ever and i lost everything i had done!!
ok well started trying to add some colour to it but not sure how it's going
any tips or hints on where im going wrong would be gratefully recieved

Hello datsun
Great start!! Most of the anatomy seems strong. I would try to resolve the hands a bit better they look a little small. Use your own hands as reference. Watch your perspective even on things such as her panties. Have a look at her legs, remember that there are bones in them that can not bend.

phew thanks i was starting to worry i wasn't gonna get a response:eek:
yeah the hands i was going for a half grasped look but haven't really made that stand out yet may look better once i do.
i see what you mean about panties should get a bit thinner on the waistline furthest from view just a tad though yeah?
but thanks again for your help

There's a clear difference in tone between the two pictures, but I really don't think its a major problem. Both of them works for me (both on CRT and LCD monitor). There is a bit more "warmth" to oyur updated one.
Great work so far. The only thing that still "niggles" a bit is her left hand.
Keep up the good work:thumbsup:

Hi
I'm relatively new at this myself, but my coloring suggestion would be to read this tutorial; it helped me to no end to understand that shadows are never just a darker version of the skin color in the light, and why the sky and background (reflected) colors affect the figure's shadow color.

p.s I like the actual drawing job on the figure, really nice pose as well.

Good work!
Maybe it's just me, but I get the feeling the upper body, the shoulder-area more to be more precise, is a little to large compared to the lower parts.
Draw on, draw on, and have some fun along the way :)

The anatomy works well, I think - the line between the back of the head to the shoulder should perhaps be more rounded to define the back of the neck better. What I miss is a little more boldness in your coloring. Adding greens, reds and blues to contrast shades and highlights on her skin.
The monitor issue is probably due to the way your monitors are calibrated, and may also be caused by Photoshop's colour management settings. I sometimes loose my sleep over this myself, but my latest discovery is that it may be smart to switch off the colour management alltogether, and set your monitor to sRGB standard. Don't ask my why, but I think it works best for me at least. Maybe I'll make another discovery next week :(
