Corsair Kingston Crucial OCZ and the rest all use a variety of chips from a few different makers like Samsung or Infineon, for example. So most of it is the same. And most of the differences only come into play during overclocking.

Ram is not all the same. Chips are just a part of a memory dimm. The boards and secondary chips are different depending on manufacturer. Even if two dimms are physically the same, the testing process, validation, and warranty is different depending on which company is putting the components together.

Ram, cooling, and power are the triad of stability. Never cheap out on any of the 3. Always run a memtest if stability is questioned, even if the ram is BRAND NEW.

I'd suggest running 2-3 passes even on a freshly built system to verify maximum system stability from the getgo.

The general rule is, buy memory from a brand name, but frankly this can be any brand name.

Between Geil value ram and Geil mega platinum X edition, you will not notice a single minute bit of difference. The difference in timings and latencies has an unmeasurable difference on render speed and on realtime parts of the app (the 3d view) the difference is <2% under the best conditions.

You will get a bigger render hit by receiving a message on ICQ once every 5 minutes than from using cheap brand name ram over the expensive stuff.
