Hi,

Newegg could be shipping the ASUS A78NX Deluxe motherboards as early as today! (11/13/2002). Check it out... (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=13-131-436) :bounce:

After been listed at 200$ for a few hours, Newegg now sells it for 150$ :applause:

off topic

here's a longshot question.does anyone know if the a7n8x boards have mounting holes for a cpu cooler?

looking at the weight of some of these coolers makes me kinda iffy about attaching them with a clip

Jason,

Alot of the new amd heatsinks use a 6 prong clipping mechanism, which securely attaches the entire sink to the socket. The only way it'll come off is if the entire socket snaps off. Which to my knowledge has never happened.

These boards actually showed up for sale on Monday. Newegg was just a bit slow in their website I guess.

I actually walked into a store on Monday and purchased 2 of the Deluxe boards and a pair of 333 2600's.

System responsiveness is readily evident. The increased memory bandwidth makes a definite improvement. Lightwave and Maya both feel much faster than the older AMD 760 chipsets.

I must say the performance on these boards are amazing. render times are incredible.

As for heatsinks, the SLK-800 has a 3 hole clip which is more than secure for mounting to the socket clips, no troubles.

I ordered mine yesterday. And I'm so glad the SLK-800 fits so well. I want to thank Greg, MadMax and all those who helped us make the right decisions. Next stop a P4 Granite Bay selection. I'm already hunting for an ASUS P4G8X Deluxe.:bounce:

MadMax: Any chance you could run a few Lightwave benchmarks to show the speed? You mentioned before how some of the benchmarks other sites have shown aren't really accurate and I'm really curious how the new NForce2's compare.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on either an NForce 2 with 2600 or a P4 2.53 and am just not sure. My two main apps are Lightwave and Photoshop so I'd love to see which would give me more bang for my buck.

Thanks

Yes please! I'd certainly appreciate some genuine Lightwave comparisons. To the best of my knowledge LW is heavily optimized for P4. Yet I'd love to see someone I trust challenge that view. I'm eager to find out if the nForce2 with it's 6.2Gb/s DC-DDR, can make up for AMD's slower 333Mhz FSB, and stack a 2700+ or even a 2600+ right up with there with a P4 2.8Ghz. Wouldn't that be cool?

Here's AnandTech's view to keep us busy, while we wait MadMax's reply. :D

Yeah, that 3.06 looks mean! Hurts my wallet looking at that price though...ouch! :p

What interestings is how the 2800+ XP still takes it in specviewperf scores.

Especially considering its almost 800 megahertz slower.

for more reviews check...

www.aceshardware.com

and

www.tech-report.com

They do a pretty good job as well.

Okay, first off, no problem, I'll definitely be giving Lightwave a workout.

Now for a point of clarification so you understand FULLY what I said in previous posts about Lightwave tests....

it is not the results I was questioning directly. What I was pissed at is the test being used is the radiosity scene with the skull and called the raytrace test.

The reason I am rather irked by this is then the results are misleading.

Lightwave has 8(?) different tests. Of those tests, ONLY the radiosity tests rely on SSE2 instruction sets for computations.

As Athlon processors currently do not have SSE2 built in, they will be slower in SSE2 tests.

In raytrace, AMD processors have a slight advantage over the Intel when compared flat out. And raytrace is what the majority of people use.

I know very few people (professionals) who actually use radiosity due the the extreme slowness of the rendering.

By calling the Radiosity scene the Raytrace test, it misleads the person reading the review to think that Intel seriously outperforms the Athlon in basic rendering, which it does not.

Anyway, I might be a few days before I get around to doing any tests since baby version 4.0 arrived sunday morning and I am bringing mom and baby home later this afternoon.

I also have 3 other kids aged 8, 6 and 3 to contend with as well so fun and games might be a bit on the slow side for me until everyone gets settled in.

Just overclock the 8 year old to 15 and then he/she can take care of the rest of them :p

Whenever you get a chance it is hugely appreciated and big congrats on the new addition to the MadMax clan!

Congrats on the new Techbaby! :)

I hope everything's well with the new arrival. Just keep them away from the machine's...don't want them to go overclocking your workstation when your not looking.

SMH: DO you have your NForce 2 machine up and running? If so, can you run any Lightwave benchmarks? The more I hear about this board, the more impressed I am.

Not yet I'm afraid, it has to reach my supplier then fly across the atlantic to where I am. Anyway I hope to be able to run some tests as soon as I get it. I also hope to show you folks some of my work for the first time on CGTalk.

Bye,:wavey:

LOL.

I always wanted to overclock my brain so i could get more work done.
Maybe i can overclock my Palm and add it to the renderfarm.

hmmm...
