weren't the shorts always available for free from the pixar website?

AlbertArt

Shortclips and previews of Pixar's shortfilms were available on their site... I don't think they were full length. Boundin' by far is one of my favorites. :bounce:

nah they were the full length things (of several of them at least), but i note now they've all been turned to "sneak peaks", ah the joys of having the same CEO...

I recall seeing 1 or 2 as full length on the site a while back, but they were the older shorts. The rest were just clips.

Good gosh. The full versions have been posted on their site for years ! Glad I downloaded them when I could.

I never did catch the full version of "The Birds" though. I think that one was always a preview/sneak peak.

What's the big thrill of viewing them as tiny little movies? You can watch most of them on your television, as they are on the DVDs of the Pixar feature length projects.

I'm not getting the huge significance of the video iPod. I've got video on my PSP, with a bigger screen, web browser, and it plays games.

I second that , i dont really get the excitement over this crappy ipod video , its like watching videos on your wristwatch.

Unless they can connect ipod to some slim hi-rez VR glasses or something, i don't see the use for buying ipod videos, even if they are Pixar shorts, which btw i have in dvd anyway.

i think noone thought for real that somebody will watch movies on that small screen. i think the key is the video-out. imagine you're going to a friend who has a tv and you got tons of films in your pocket. you can watch your films everywhere, without a pc

Nice thing is, it doesnt cost you any more, and its still an iPod. Its just a bonus

If anyone has bought these, what are their resolution and quality levels?

FloydBishop

What they really should have done, in my opinion, is to have Pixar do some video iPod exclusive content.

Here's what the Apple site has to say about the new iPod:

Set your music in motion
First, iPod put music in your pocket. Now it puts on a show. With support for up to 15,000 songs and up to 150 hours of video on a 2.5-inch QVGA color display, iPod gives you the ultimate music experience — sight and sound — in a lighter, thinner design. Available in classic white and dramatic black.

Music to your eyes
With its 320 x 240-pixel QVGA color display, iPod lets you view photos and watch MPEG-4 and H.264 video wherever you go.* View your own videos, or watch music videos and TV shows you can purchase from the iTunes Music Store.

More features
in less space
Incredibly, iPod will fit in even more pockets than ever. Measuring less than half an inch thin, the 30GB iPod takes up about 45 percent less space than the original iPod. Even the 60GB model is over 10 percent thinner than the fourth-generation 30GB iPod.

Show and share
Use the optional iPod A/V cable to play videos and photo slideshows with music on your TV. Or combine the new Apple Remote with an optional iPod Universal Dock to control your music, videos and slideshows from across the room.

And that's all well and good, but it doesn't necessarily say anything about the resolution of the videos available in iTunes. As someone pointed out in another thread, one of the big things about the H.264 codec was scalability. So I think the question about the actual resolution of these videos is still valid apart from the iPod specs.

Thats awesome that you find it useless. However, what about the people who couldnt care less about a PSP? What about the people who find it kind of cool that you can take video with you while youre bored on a bus or plane?

I dont really get the huge significance of your post

To each his own, some people want things and some people dont want things.

The thing is, if you have a PSP, you CAN take video with you while you are bored on a bus or a plane. You just format it with your computer using the free "PSP Video 9", drop it onto your PSP via the USB connection, and you're ready to go.

The 30GB iPod sells on the Apple site for $299

The Sony PSP is around $270

The iPod isn't even a wide screen format. How is a letterboxed movie going to look on that tiny little screen?

The point of my post was that I don't get the big thrill of this new iPod, since it costs more, and does less than the PSP.

You seem reluctant to mention how much storage the PSP contains. Anywhere near 20gb? ;)

Not reluctant, I forgot to mention it.

The PSP reads memory sticks. These come in various storage capacities, ranging from 32 MB (the PSP comes with one of those) to upwards of 2GB.

It's a trade off for sure, but for me, I'd rather have two or three wide screen videos that look great than two or three hundred videos with the sides cut off that I need to squint at.

I have a great solution for when your on a bus or train and you're bored.. read a book or sketch on a tablet.. cheaper than an ipod or psp, and it actually creates new synapses!!!

a.) iPods are selling well anyways. I didn't buy it specifically for the video, but since it was available...

b.) The PSP also needs, at minimum, a 512 meg memory stick before you can go through the hassle of compressing videos for it and managing the space you have.

c.) The PSP is larger. Better screen, but not as easy on pocket space.

d.) iTunes sells video content. (Well, in all fairness, I guess the UMDs on the PSP count, too. Pity they take up the extra space.)

e.) The iPod hooks up to a TV. PSP no workie.

f.) 30 gigs. That's a huge number.

The PSP is a better value if you want to play games on it, too. The iPod is a better value as a music player. One does not kill the other, not buy a long shot.

Nice post!

Cheers.

I'm trying to keep my cool, but this thread's irritating me a bit. Evidently, I'm a fool for ordering the iPod Video. My gf wanted an iPod, this thing came out, so I ordered the latest greatest one. I'm curious about it, too. I've always watned a little handheld doohickey that I can store a bunch of video entertainment on. I've also always wanted an iPod. If her iPod works out for her, I may get one, too with this neat little purpose in mind. But I'm wasting my money! I should have bought her a sketch book instead so her brain won't waste away! I should sit in the corner of a room and meditate! I should get a PSP that I don't want to play and deal with the extra hassle of swapping memory cards, all for roughly the same amount of money!

"Apple made their product better, booo hiiisssss! It's not HDTV and doesn't have a 30" screen! What a retarded product!"
