Hi hi,

My first film and first time working with a team of 3D guys and girl. Scary.

Let me know what you think:

10-12-2005, 09:18 PM
Oh wow, thats really hilarious! I like the overall design, animation and the animated facial textures. That's really cool! A really clever short. :applause:

10-12-2005, 09:59 PM
Nice one Kwok,
Finished film looks really cool - glad you decided to post it!
Hope you get lots of nice replies - you worked real hard for it...

10-12-2005, 10:14 PM
I really like how you use the stylish characterisation as a comic device, like when they rest on the flat faces of their boxy heads.Great soundtrack and beautiful visual style.

10-13-2005, 12:15 AM
Well done Kwok. All those late nights payed off!

10-13-2005, 01:45 PM
I can't believe so few people replied That short is excellent. Very creative idea! Thanks for posting!

10-13-2005, 01:52 PM
Hey Kwok, how things bud, great to see the film here, it should be front page, not just because i was one of the guys working on it, haha, You need to post a bigger resolution man :)

10-13-2005, 02:08 PM
very nice render! well done!

10-13-2005, 02:14 PM
really entertaining short! A fun idea with a nice style and quite possibly the most watchable piece of animation I've seen from the Channel 4 MESH scheme. Good Stuff- I especially liked the use of 2D animation on the characters' faces.

10-13-2005, 03:48 PM
What a very enjoyable film. I think it's terrific!

Art

10-13-2005, 04:58 PM
thanks for the kind words guys.
and an even bigger thank you to all who worked on it. it was a nightmare but job well done.

10-13-2005, 06:42 PM

10-13-2005, 07:28 PM
Very nice I watched it 3 times in a row.

10-13-2005, 07:31 PM
This is the kind of stuff that ACTUALLY should be on the front page.

10-13-2005, 07:52 PM
Haha that was awesome. Great job by you and your team! 5 stars :D

10-13-2005, 08:29 PM
thanks for not being "mainstream" that film is so different absolutely amazing stuff there

10-13-2005, 08:45 PM
Excellent short.Very entertaining.Visual style,imaginative story,great animation/soundtrack. The camera work/editing was solid.Basically super all round!!

I got flashbacks of those weird wooden dolls you used to see in peoples houses in the 80's,you know, the ones containing smaller versions when you pop them open.:)

Also,i think this would make a great spinoff game.

10-13-2005, 08:56 PM
this is my first fanboy post. incredible work.

could you talk a little bit more about the project? ie., why was it commissioned, where did the story come from, who worked on it etc?

10-13-2005, 08:56 PM
- clever
- daring
- renewing

you got it all. Excellent stuff. I'm humble in your presence

10-13-2005, 09:08 PM
Excellent work! Quite dark really! I was disheartened when the rat ate the eyes out, but I loved the piece over all!

I especially enjoyed the music! :bounce:
Is mesh a show on Channel 4 that shows cg flicks?

10-13-2005, 09:11 PM
Endearing characters and a fun story. Congratulations on a job very well done.

10-13-2005, 09:21 PM
That's so refreshingly different (and a little disturbing). Awesome work to you and your team!

10-13-2005, 09:39 PM
thats good stuff, great style.

I Like the farting in the tummy (yellow smoke from nostrils) and the mouse eating the cats eye.

10-13-2005, 09:44 PM
very unique, innovative, and inspiring

'nuff said!

10-13-2005, 09:50 PM
Wow, what a very unique and well done short. Love the simplicity of the design and the off the wall story. 5 stars!!

10-13-2005, 10:01 PM

10-13-2005, 10:28 PM
great style and very funny

10-13-2005, 10:30 PM
this is my first fanboy post. incredible work.

could you talk a little bit more about the project? ie., why was it commissioned, where did the story come from, who worked on it etc?

Kwok should answer these as he was the director, but as far as i know its a commisioned project to showcase young UK animation. If you live in UK and have a good idea then you can submit that in and if your lucky and the idea is good enough it will get picked.
You can see the handfull of people who worked on it at the end of the film,

10-13-2005, 10:43 PM
My only comment would be to maybe add some suttle lighting to the characters. The film looked a little dark in areas. I really like the stype of the characters:)

10-13-2005, 11:18 PM
very funny and neat idea
congratulation to you and your team:thumbsup:

10-14-2005, 12:44 AM
Nice funny animation  . I'd love to rewatch it in highres though.

10-14-2005, 01:08 AM
Hm, I found it to be somewhat amusing, though the only moment I really laughed was when the mans eyes were eaten away (quite disturbing, that was). It's nice, but the music choice (bit cliché at moments) and timing could've been better in my eyes. Also, to me the whole Russian doll principle was a bit known and the jokes were, for me, too predictable, save for the whole bit around the eye-eating.

It was some nice work, but it wasn't truely 'great'.

...according to me :) I did like the faces, though.

10-14-2005, 01:46 AM
great work
i really enjoyed wathcing this one

10-14-2005, 01:54 AM
I liked it a lot! you can see that a lot of effort was put into its making.

10-14-2005, 02:12 AM
excellentissimo !
(320x180 is small, bigger version would be great)

10-14-2005, 02:35 AM

10-14-2005, 05:56 AM
I was not able to hear the music, but I can already say - very original and beautiful animation. One of the best 5 stars, and best luck for the future and on the festivals.

10-14-2005, 07:40 AM
It's a really lovely short! Nice work!
I hope it kicks some serious ass at the festivals!

10-14-2005, 09:23 AM
this is my first fanboy post. incredible work.

could you talk a little bit more about the project? ie., why was it commissioned, where did the story come from, who worked on it etc?

as rodi said it was commisioned for the uk channel 4 'mesh' scheme.
i had the 4 characters first and the story stemmed from how i could link them to each other. in the end i just wanted make some funny animation and have a laugh as it was my first film.
it's good seeing people laugh at your work...
the credits are on the end of the film.

also, will try to get a hi res version up soon as there's more interest.

10-14-2005, 09:25 AM
Good job! I really enjoyed that, a very wonderful start to my morning. The sountrack was awsome, and i really liked the way you rendered it - very nice textres and lighting, very original. Excellnt, good job!

10-14-2005, 11:30 AM
Fantastic work, wonderful twist on the russian doll idea. I agree with seeing a higher res version, a lovely blend of 2d, 3d, humour and music.

10-14-2005, 12:05 PM
Hey! Where's my 'script advice' credit? Or my money? Curses Kwokman-fu!

It's excellent and you know it damn you. Well done everyone and cheers for help on Ambi-pur, the 20sec's nearly finished, give us a bell and you can see 'em all

10-14-2005, 03:29 PM

10-14-2005, 03:35 PM

rendered really nice too :)

10-14-2005, 05:12 PM
Cool! Very original. I liked the style of the characters and how they walked. I think that's very funny. And everything else looked just great!

10-14-2005, 05:32 PM
Dude, this has to be the funniest short I have seen in a long while

10-14-2005, 06:55 PM
This is fanatastic, one of the best shorts i've seen so far. I love the style used and the direction of the story is great. The character design is just brilliant nice and simple but still able to give across emotion and drama! This is an instant 5 Star cant wait to see your next piece, keep it up!

10-14-2005, 08:21 PM
I saw only up to where the yellow dog(?) is following the brown dog around the corner, but its rather good! :applause:

10-14-2005, 09:13 PM
How to make that those animals' face?
Does anyone know?

10-14-2005, 10:34 PM
awsome work. one of the best i have seen in a long time. animation that was done fit perfectly to the models and the story and never went over board. :buttrock:

10-15-2005, 10:01 AM
Haven't seen such a disgusting movie ever. :argh:

10-15-2005, 02:01 PM
its cruel but funny story ... ı like its style. good jop :)

10-15-2005, 05:22 PM
Man this one is good, sets a really nice mood, just awesome style, really nice!

10-15-2005, 06:41 PM
Great style and shows much artistic cleverness but the story is yet another tribute to the cruelty to animated characters.

10-15-2005, 10:53 PM
Definetly off the mainstream, in a good and refreshing way! :applause:

The eating concept & realization was great. Like the cycle of life 'n stuff :)

BrownMouse->eaten by BrownCat->eaten by YellowDog->eaten by Farmer->
Then the BrownMouse starts a chain reaction->All are freed (the story builds up well)
->BrownCat->gets eaten by YellowDog, Farmer-> severed by BrownMouse->roped and thrown down the cliff by YellowDog. If the Farmer doesn't grow the crops, will the mice have corn later on?

So why did Farmer hurt the YellowDog? Did Farmer know the YellowDog ate the BrownCat?
I didn't get the sinister ending for the Farmer and his YellowCat :D All the remaning crops are now for the mice!

I'm trying not to repeat previously said comments, but the character design and the animation really suited the idea.
The sound design and storytelling worked well.

Creating original ideas, and writing good scripts are truly the hardest things in the industry.

Gongrats for the film!

10-16-2005, 02:56 PM
When one upon another upon another is in one's belly, you know something bad is bound to happen. ;)

Great stuff, and a testament to good drugs resulting in good things, haha kidding obviously, would love to see a 640x480, it looks like you created all of the facial animations with animated texture files, really good idea and something ive not seen in this way.
