View Full Version : light fall offs and how to use them?

Hi,

Cinema's lights have several types of fall offs, inverse square, linear and so on. I am always
a little unsure how to use fall offs. Are there any general rules of thumb for using light fall
offs? I use them mostly on fill lights to prevent overlit areas. Would be great to hear some
other opinions, ideas, experiences to that topic.

in my architectural work i'll standardly use inverse square fall off on all my direct or visible lights in a scene as it give a nice crisp representation as of how a real light would fall off.

if i'm setting up incidental infill omnis or low light emmiting lights that need a large degree of sublty i'll always use falloff set to none, and a far clip fall off range. the ranges option gives a nicer softer falloff.
