"The global demand for flat TVs is growing so rapidly it's creating a shortage of liquid crystal displays, not the glut that some had expected, a senior executive at Japanese electronics maker Sharp said Tuesday.

LCDs, who needs 'em, they're going to be horriby out-run by the new SED-technology next year. Don't buy LCD-tv's!

I think it'll be a while before they're a reasonably priced alternative, not to mention that all new technologies have problems in the beginning.

"Although the first screens will appear as early as 2006, mass production will not begin until 2007 when the two companies expect to produce around 75,000 units."

You're right about that, but I'd still wait for 'em. I've got a plasma that's good for a few more years ;)

Still waiting to be an HDTV. I wonder how long before a 1080P SED hits the market?
SED does look like the future as far as quality image goes. But it seems like the screen will be more delicate than an LCD or plasma. Maybe not but if something ever cracked the glass on the front and your vacuum is gone so is the TV. But also if a regular CRT tv got cracked it would be the end for it too and thats never happened to me so I guess I'm being paranoid. Hehehehe.

Cheers,
JS

Yep, probably the worst time in the last 20 years to buy an expensive telly - getting better and cheaper so fast it's not funny.
