View Full Version : New layer from visible
Hi !!
I want to create a new layer which contains all the information from the visible
layers below - like a screenshot.
1) Create selection (partial selection or select all)
2) * Create new layer from selection showing all information from all visible
layers *
I dont find any command like 2) *. . . * Creaing a new layr from selection
(cut or copy) always refers to the active layer :-[
Any good tips ??
Thank you [T]

Got it :
1) Create new layer (and keep activated)
2) Alt + Merge visible (or Alt + Merge linked - if you want to cpoy linked
layers into a new one)
What I still try to find out : How can I copy just a selected area of all visible
(or linked) layers into a new one ?!
Regards [T]
Have you tried copy merged?
Make your selection, then use ctrl+shift+c (or edit menu>copy merged). Now with the selection still active just hit Ctrl+v (or edit menu>paste) to put it in a new layer. It should paste in exactly the same place.
Works for me in PS7.

Both techniques work, the ctrl+shift+c (copy merged) better suited for copying a region of the image, having one more step (selecting)
For the initial request, I prefer the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E (dublicate merged visible) on an empty new layer.

you can also make a snapshot of the current state in the history and then dupicate that and work on it as a separate unit so that you can keep the original...
