Seriously, I don't get how Real can still exist, they were one of the first, and the have ALWAYS sucked!! Plus it's the most annoying piece of software I know of when it comes to constantly upgrading itself and asking for registration etc etc. Damn it, die allready!

Not a big fan of windows media here... but i would pay someone to get RID of real player. I consider it practically a virus. it's the mosy whiny, self-absorbed piece of software I know of. It takes more attention per minute of video you play than anything else I know of. And teh quality isn't even very good... I wonder why nobody likes it....

Which clone is that? They're quite different IMO, Ms' player is possibly more apple-inspierd if anything, unless I haven't seen the version you're talking about.

There is not as much money to get out of Apple as out of MS, thats the reason, nothing else.

I always phrase it like this: Windows Media Player sucks. And what's left is sucked up by Realplayer and the Quicktime-player. Someone sensible should come up with a common format, etc, etc. Then again, sensible people are all too buisy not being in power with things like that.

I've never in 10 years had realplayer on my computer more than 10 minutes to occasionally check if they have made improvements, but alas...always crap-tacular. I have to agree with the others, Realnetworks baffles me, they spend so much money, develop a product for so long and still can't compete with the likes of MS and QT. Makes me wonder how they can remain in business so long; do they live of government contracts or something? Or are they just suckling at the patent teat? I don't know...but I am sure Real Networks will never have a home my my system....

Come on guys, this is not about the quality of Real products, it is about Microsoft abusing their monopoly position. Don't you want to bash a little M$ for abusing monopoly position?! I mean, maybe we dont care now because this is a crap product, but if Microsoft are not restrained, more and more quality products will potentially be denied a market possibility and we risk never seeing anything but Microsoft products, wich will be more and more crappy, because no competition implies no need to invest in product developpment and research.

I didn't want to install it at first and tried all the realplayer alternatives but they don't work. Reluctantly it had to install it. Utter crap. People stop f***ken using RM on your site! Windows is good in that for basic operations pretty much anybody can use it . Write e-mail , get on the internet , do stuff with photos . Really it's not built for people who are tech savy it's built for the Walmart morons who buy 399.00 computers . They make up the major bulk of the Desktop buisness . Also retards who work in offices who can't figure out that you need to plug the magic box thingy in for it to work . Microsoft tries to build something everyone can use for everything and make it easy to use and secure which they have failed at but so has just about every other company ...what PC game company do you know that does not need to make a patch after launch ?? ...and that's just to get a game working right not a whole operating system . Anyways this lawsuit is retarded because Real Player is retarded . The only thing that I like is that .rm files can have the most compression for the best quality of any media file including divx. I have have downloaded entire Anime series episodes ( 30 min of video ) in.rm format and the file size was like 5mb ..that's pretty damn small for 30 mins of video and the compression was bad but not so bad I could'nt watch the show . I think it might have caught on if they had taken a diffrent buisness strategy from the begining ...but I agree with everyone else it needs to die it's beyond annoying . :banghead:

The reason I complained in this post is not because I don't think Microsoft should have lost an antitrust suit (Microsoft is the primo example of a monopolistic monster), but that RealPlayer is a crazy choice to win the a media player suit vs. them. Personally, I'd have to be pretty darn hard pressed to use real player if microsft was anti-competeive or not. It just sucks. When I encounter a site that has only .rm files on it, I just leave. I haven't found anything I wanted badly enough yet to deal with realplayer since my last attempt at RealOne. I've avoided windows media when I can too, sticking to quicktime. However, quicktime 7 may yet convince me to use more wm streams just because of performance/stability issues...

You dont have to install real player to play rm files. Just download the K-lite Mega codec pack and use window media player classic to play everything

Wow...been awhile since I read anything this rediculous; is this a joke or a real opinion? Sounds like a high Schoolers rant. Who do you think the computers are developed for? The everyman. It's the everyman that drives inovation and addoption of software/hardware. It's where the money is. Just because a person uses a computer without being fluent in it's techno-babble doesn't mean they are ignorant, stupid or unsaavy, it just means that they are using a tool to do a job. Do you own a car? Do you understand everything that makes the car go, from the motor to the gas? Down to a minute level? It's the same thing, a car is a tool, a computer is a tool, it doesn't matter that someone doesn't understand the inner workings/programming/construction of the car/computer/whatever, as long as it works, and is dependable, they can be used to complete your work. And if you want to avoid patches to softwre altogether, buy an x-box, because that's the only way you'll be able too.

I've hated Real ever since back in 98 or 99. I bought Real Juke Box to encode MP3s. It is a seperate app from Real Player yet it forces me to install Real Player even though I'm not going to use it. Plus it always drives my firewall crazy because of all the spyware built into it.
