thanks everyone. i feel just now like i need to paint more with value and form in my paintings, rather than atmosphere and frilly textures..

so, to contradict myself...postyposty--

You really got to translate some of these pieces into oils. Great landscapes

audit

dan-- thank you..i know what you mean, but i'm afraid i'm totally digital. so digital i don't even own any oil paints.

..er, that's a really awful thing to admit to isn't it... :/

nuddy paint..

I don't think its awful at all! Nothing wrong with completely digital work - you can giclee print it out and never tell the difference :P Cristophe Vacher does that, I've seen a HUGE giclee of one of his pieces at a DragonCon a couple years ago, I thought it was oil. Nope!

Anyway, you never fail to inspire me Audit. Beautiful stuff :)

You should try a giclee print sometime, as Runecaster suggested. Those landscapes would really look nice on a wall. Great nude, by the way. I like the cool secondary light coming from the right. :)

well thanks guys, so much :) going trad is a long-term goal i suppose: it is so much harder :D i'll maybe see where i can get glicee printing done round here, or over the webs? anyone know any good sites offering such a service?

I'm sorry it's been so long. It was never my intention - life just gets in the way (selfishly blocking my view in the process). These last months have been, to understate the matter, busy.

so, Happy New Year anyone who remembers me...

:p

Hi!
He he, great artwork!
I saw your pieces in the speed thread but I've never answered to this thread...
I want to say that you've got a huge sense of scale and colors ( fitted very well together)
I must improve with colors, and your work is a pleasure for learn.

heya arno, thank you. gotta keep workin, i think my problem is in getting interest and detail, often through improving my lighting schemes, pushing values and stuff which usually escapes me..

anyway, tried without ref this time,
sorry it's boring. it's practice! :)

The "Marsh Fields" painting is spectacular, Audit. Do you use a color wheel to help plan and pick colors in photoshop? Is there such an application? Or do you simply eyeball the color schemes? Either way, your recent landscapes are really working.

audit
04-07-2007, 12:57 AM
hey spex good to hear from you, and thanks :) no, there is no such thing as a colour wheel in photoshop, but it's easy to approximate in the program using the Colour Picker set to the 'L' radio button, which has chroma/saturation in the palette and value on the slider. For colour schemes it works to use Variations (under image>adjustments) once some values are down just to get going (usually before i know what i'm going to paint), then it's a matter of building value, texture, mood etc. :)

Hey, thanks Audit. I haven't stopped by your thread lately, so it's a real treat to see these new wonderful landscapes. For the above dinosaur piece, the atmospheric perspective renders a nice moody quality. I also dig the huge cavern on the previous page, it definitey embues the sense of exploration. Your work is very serene and majestic. Excellent stuff:thumbsup:

Nick I'm here for ya man!

Glad to see you're still kicking it. I hope whatever's holding you back from painting you conquer it.

Great work on the last one mate! Love the tradition palette knife feel and your colour blending is masterful! Love the clouds top right, but you nailed that orange colour too.

Also, the piece lacks motion in the ocean. I see some shore line ruffles but what would have helped would be a shockwave wake from the takeoff pad... or is it landing? hmmmm

Good work Nick - post more!

Matt
