hi all,

New to Maya and am having some trouble, hope you people can help :)

I am trying to do a few things having created a model:

- export my model to z brush & if possible 3ds max

- subdivide the model to smooth the shape, I’m working on a polygon model could the problem be that I should have worked in subdiv surfaces? it would seem strange I couldn’t somehow convert over the geometry

Thanks

1. you have to export the model to an OBJ file (file/export all|selection option box). if you can't export to OBJ (because this option is not listed) go to window/settings/plugin manager and load the 'objexport' plugin

2. you want subdivide it in maya? go to polygons/smooth

Hi dtek8,
If you want to bring your model back to Maya make shure that in your OBJ import options (in Maya) the bit that says create multiple objects is set to false. If you dont do this then the object will `explode` at some point beacause the vertex order gets changed.

Cheers.

Hi there, dtek8. I don't find your question very clear. If you only want to smooth your model, do as dirty suggested. If you are asking how to convert the Polygonal Object to a Subdivision Object make sure you set the Maximum Base Mesh Faces (Modify -> Convert -> Ploy to SubD -> Option Box) higher than the amount of faces in your object. Hope that helps. Good luck.
