naw you almost nailed the smoke, have it coming off his legs visibly but not as obviously, and slowly wisping around his actual leg to the ground and as it does so fadeing off...

The ice slide man! that's the staple of iceman :) Well even if you chose to do the dry ice trail, i guess it'll have to suffice :) Good job :) the final ;) turned out sweet

Ok heres the deal I'm a big comic fan been one my whole life,Iceman is one of my favorites ....now down to crits.

1. The frost smoke is awesome....

2. How come his arm/elbow is see threw but the rest of him isn't?

3.the overall look is great...but have a little fun with his costume...i always hated the swimtrunk look but thats just me ...

4.He looks good but too smooth i 'd like too see cracks or chunks of ice on his body like they've been chiped off...

5. last but not least the color..its ok but again i would like to see like a water texture more with frost/tinted look...

Now these are just my thoughts but overall you did a great job of one of my farvorite comic characters, and i will deffinately save the picture for a wallpaper and cool looking...with your permission of course

overall rating - Looks great!! Definately a keeper!!

Hey! Worked the smoke a bit more like Bitmap suggested and figured out it was a incidence issue causing the transparent elbow so lowered it a bit. Or should I raise it and make him more transparent in more areas? The work is done using XSI, sub divisional modeling and the shader was made by yourstruely with help from the guys who posted on my wip thread (Thanks Guys!)
Went with the OG style look, but having issues with trying to use displacement on him to make him more blocky as Kretin suggested. Need to trouble shoot that issue. As for the water shader check my wip thread I have other shader version there tell me if any of them are close to what you guys are think of. LordEzzat, heck yeah man you can use my image! Im glad that someone would think enough of it to use it in such away :) Whew! Oh yeah and to mattregnier not to worry the ice slide image is in the works! Thanks to all who posted so far!

Sheesh so involved with the smoke that I didnt realize I had the wrong shader on the first pic. Shame on me! :p

looks great :applause:

maybe you could try to put some color into the background to make him stand out more, it might also enhance the 'ice' look depending on how refraction and reflection work in your shader... some dark blues might work, or maybe go for the exact opposite, red hot colors. He is so cool, he won't even melt in an inferno.

or maybe just a colored light to accentuate some edges...

Hahahaha i love it the smoke is even better now...Marc has a great point maybe with your lights give the some blueish color to add to the eflections and such also on your shader for the i ce you could add some blue or add a cloud picture which would bend over the models giving him that reflective look, like light on water he does look coolier but i still would like to see more of a water based look to him...i use maya and am not sure about the program your using so i wish i could be off more help....srry but you got a good fan now!!! Also I love the other model your working on shes looking great too and the toon shaders sre coming along great...

Thanks to LordEzzat and Marc Andreoli you guys were right like this lighting alot better! Trying some effects on the ground to livin it up like you suggested. All effects done using xsi's FX tree

Cool pose. Reminds me of the terminator.

Are you gonna texture him, or just leave him as he is?

And what is your pose trying to convey? (just curious)

Kryptochan

Hey! yeah going to leave him as is untextured. Heh one because he's Iceman and two because I stinks at textures but am working on that :) As for his pose he's summoning his unearthly cold powers trying to look tough, atleast thats what I hope poeple get from the pose.

Nice modelling job here! Since you are using incidence transparancy and it's causing his arm to become almost completely transparent I was wondering something. Isn't Iceman just capable of creating a layer of ice around his normal body so if his arm's ice is transparent shouldn't his real skin show through? I think you should get rid of the incidence transparency and make the ice more reflective as the incidence increases. Something like a fresnel shader could do this for you. Good job though, keep it up!

ahh, my favorite X-Man! I always preferred him during his "spikey" phase though! Aside fro mteh segmentation on the X, it looks clean!:)

hmm people are having issues with the X symbol. I made it blocky on purpose to kinda gave it that ice angular look, but if this is not working ill change it! Opinion? For fun here's a quote from my friend James our resident comic book officianado :)

"When Bobby Drake first joined the X-men at 16 he could only cover himself in what looked like snow. Snowman would have been a much better name for the character. I think he even went so far in one comic to stick a carrot in his face and an old hat on his head to look like a snowman. Eventually as he gained better control of his powers he appeared to be in costume but completely covered over with an inch thick coating of transparent ice. Now even later on just before I bailed on comics he had mastered his power to the point of being able turn himself completely to ice and was even transparent, very similar to the picture you sent. He still had the hard cornered pixilated looked (squared forehead and joints) but was still mostly human looking just transparent. Interestingly enough if you look at the old Human Torch it is the same thing. Originally he just looked like a guy on fire, you couldn't see any of his features at all, then to the molten man look, and finally Nova Flame!! I always wanted a min-series of those two called "Fire & Ice" but to my knowledge Marvel never did me that favor. Hope this helps,"

Heh and my mom said comic books were a waste of time

One thing...Ice smoke tends to fall (heavier) instead of rise (as heat gas does). You know like the old Dairy Queen commericals where they show the "treats" in the middle of ice blocks..the froth is traveling downward.

Kryptochan

Julez4001 yeah you were totally right about the smoke rising from his hands so fixed that, also added frost on him so hopefully that resolves other issues.

Oh yeah! That was a great suggestion about the smoke from the ice going down instead of up! It looks so much better now... funny how something can look wrong but not be completely evident until you see how it's supposed to look. Great job!
