View Full Version : Free Texture Collection :)
EsHrA 10-10-2005, 09:23 PM Hi all,
I made a small texture collection for you guys to celebrate 8.5 release and the coming of 9!
(well... not really but it just coincided nicely.. hehe.. :) )
These textures were taken on my vacation in Italia around Venice and the Garda Lake.
Within the rar archive (10.5mb) are 20 large jpg images (1496*1122*24bit) some of which are edited.
Here's a small preview with 4 of them. (not actual size)
http://members.home.nl/mlon/random/texturespreview.jpg
Do with them what you want and let me know if you used some of 'em, love to see it!
Click Me! (http://members.home.nl/mlon/random/mlonfreetextures.rar)
Have fun,
mlon

Wonderful!! Thanks man!!
I've actually thought about starting a website where people can upload their digital photos for texture use etc. Wouldn't that be neat? Like a gigantic user contributed texture morgue!
Errmm anyway, seriously thanks man! :)

I like the idea too, would it be free? Or would you charge? Either way, I would opt for some kind of user login etc... So as to cut down on leechers from hogging your bandwidth. I would even pay for access, perhaps charge a few dollars for a weeks worth of time to download files? *Shrugs* Anywho, I think that is a great idea.

ERm. I don't know, really. Problem is, it's easy to spend $120 a month or so for a host that can do that. I'm talking to a friend who's interested in hosting it. In that case, yeah, it'd be free. (ad supported, actually... Google's ads.) And, yep, registration required.
Subscription's interesting, but it worries me a little, too. I mean, how does one go about asking for user submitted textures, then charging to get at the ones already there? It's a head scratcher for me. Maybe cap the downloads or something... I dunno. Selling collection CDs would be nice, but would the users who submitted textures get mad?
The more 'gut reactions' I can get on this topic, the better. I might actually get off me bum and do something about it. ;)

One reaction comming up! I love textures, love, love, love.
And I think I speak for everyone when I say everyones generosity is respected and aknowledged in these forums, whether it be textures, plugins, or whatnot. So I'm sure plenty of people will respond.

perhaps doing it small scale and only allowing people that actually know how to shoot a decent image map source pic? Also limiting membership would reduce the bandwidth concerns.
I'll PM you some of the off the wall ideas I have tried find more image map sources. ;)

would it be usefull for you guys to have the name and type of cam used?
so you maybe can more easily fix the barrel distortion (lens distortion).

Very cool textures - thanks for sharing. Any info on your lenses and personal info would be useful (I like to have copyright info on everything that is in my library just to remember where things came from and for credit later on).

I reckon the idea of a texture library is a great idea.
I am for it..
i think that the idea of selling the textures on cd is a good idea only if the charge is fo rthe cost of creating the cd and that all texture creators/owners are credited.
it would be an administrative nightmare to put a value on all textures and pay out royalties to all the creators...
but the idea of an online community texture library is awesome...
(my 2¢) :)
In a way there is already an architecture in place for this. While the textures are not free, they are very reasonably priced and they are always looking for more. I would encourage you to checkout this stock site (http://www.istockphoto.com/SentientPlastic). I've been a member there for the past year and a half and have gotten some really great images. Interesting textures are on their needed list. PM me if you have any questions.
