View Full Version : Depth illusion?
stevecullum 10-10-2005, 04:25 PM Is there anyway to give an illusion of depth when using an animated clipmap to cut a hole in some geometry?

Have you tried depth of field? perhaps it can work, never tried in such approach myself though, post the outcome if you try it out. :)

I need more info.
Are you talking about poking a hole through a cube and somehow getting the complete tunnel?

I think Zarathusta is on the money....
Can't think of anything myself right now.....

Well here is what I'm trying to do:- I have a 2km landscape which needs to slowly fall into the ground and leave a huge hole. Hard fx is out the question - to many parts to calculate - as I need to retain a sense of scale and I've only got a couple of days to turn it around at most!
So I thought maybe a clipmap to reveal the hole and power the particle fx but I need depth where the map reveals the holes. I've tried using a normal flipped duplicate with matte object turned on, which kind of works, but I can't then texture the inside of the hole.
I'm just trying a completely different approach at the moment, but I could do with some alternative suggestions!
Cheers.

Morph it (that's all I had to say but the damn forum won't let you post just that)

Now there's and idea - hadn't thought of that one - cheers!
