CGTalk - Losing quality...

Hi all.
I am having a problem in photoshop
I am doing an image at 4800*3600 with 300dpi
When i apply gaussion blur to an area it loses quality
like this

I made a selection and filled it with a gradient, under this layer i have one with gaussion blur with 45% opacity, if i put the opacity to 100% the quality looks good, but at 45% it doesnt...i dont understand

I hope someone can help me, thanks in advance

does it show that loss of qulality when you are fully soomed in? it could be an issue that is only there when you are zoomed out far enough to see the whole piece. Also you might try it as a 16 bit image....not sure if you can apply a guassian blur in a 16 bit image, but you might want to research it.

Wow i changed the image mode to 16 bit and it worked! thank you very much! :D
Btw, it was at 100% zoom
