I bought the Art Of Rigging book and am following the reverse foot tutorial. It is a reverse foot that doesn't actually use extra joints, but instead groups the IK handles to themselves. Anyway after grouping the ankleIK to itself making a null group and position the pivot for that group in the correct place rotating the group on the x-axis should give me a heel lifting motion. But instead it also moves the ball joint pushing it downward. Please look at the pictures. The first one is the example file from the book and how the foot should look. THe second picture is my foot and the bug thats happening. Thanks for any help.

Hm, can you post a pic of the set up in the outliner? I think I use a similar set up but am not used to looking at it in the hypergraph.

Well that to me looks a bit different to what Im doing but heres a link to my set up:

You can rotate the toe and ball controls to move the foot. I add extra attributes to my overall Foot control (the shape) to make this nice and easy.

Hope that helps...

I tried your setup real quick and I'm still getting the weird tranlastion on the ball joint when I try and lift the heel up (as shown in my previous pic). I have no idea why its doing this.

Lets all say it together now..."I'm stupid". I think I figured out the problem. I was forgeting to freeze transformations on the footCtrl object. Once I did this the problem was fixed for all the grouped IKhandles. I'm not quite sure how/why not having frozen the footCtrl's transforms would have caused the joints to do what they did. All the pivots and such were in the proper places. Oh well, just another thing to add to the memory bank. I'll go ahead and finish the foot/leg to verify that everything is OK. Thanks for all the help guys.
