I am not a C4D user, but I am working on a project that will be finalized in Cinema 4D. I would like to be able to animate in Maya (hard surface, plastic toys, no weights) and export the polygon and animation keys to be used in C4D. I won't be editing the animation in Cinema, so I could bake the bone and keyframe data to be frame by frame. I know this works with PolyTrans, but has anyone done something like this in Cinema 4D??

I appreciate any assistance!

Hi,

I also had this problem recently. You can export Geometry and Animations using the FBX format. When you export FBX with Maya, you will have to convert the file from FBXv6 to FBXv5 (Alias has a free conversion tool for this job).

After loading the FBX file into Cinema, I always had to to certain things to make it work (maybe you won't have to do all of those):

Adjust project frame rate
Scale the whole scene x100
Put the camera into a Null-object; assign all of camera's keyframe tracks (Position, Rotation, Scale) to the Null-object; Set camera's local position to 0,0,0; Set camera's local rotation to -90,0,0.
(I write camera, because I had to convert the camera animation from maya to c4d. You will probably do this with other objects)

If you still have problems (I did with some shots), try this: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=253099&highlight=cinema+maya

Greetings,
Jack

OK, I think I am almost there. I can't find the options to export as an FBXv5 file. All I see is v6.

Does anyone know if this a Maya 7 specific option? I am using 6.5 currently.

Thanks a ton!

Why not read my post again? ;-)
