View Full Version : Shader in max 5 for a car
Error323 11-12-2002, 01:45 PM Hey guys and girls,
I'm building a car http://www.revonx.com/stuff/renders/error/lotuselise8.jpg
And I would like to know howto create a nice looking shader for it.. I've tried this :
- Multi layer shader
- First specular layer : Level 150 and Glossiness 75
- Second specular layer : Level 75 and glossiness 35
- On map Specular level 2 a noise
- On map reflection refraction a falloff shader (fresnell type) and a reflect refract on the white map of the falloff.
But it just sux!!! If I look in the gallery here then I see all nice and shiney cars they look beatifull the shader.
I want to achieve that too! But don't know how :(
Maybe it's also lightning settings or something, could anyone help me with it and tell me what to look out for???
Thanx a lot

A LOT of it is in the scene and lighting setup. I'll try and crank out a paint shader for ya... just give me a little time.
*hint* Brazil has a very nice paint shader :)

thanx alot man!!!! Much apreceated.!!!!!!!!
Hi!
Nice car! If you want to put something superglossy on your car, then try my super high gloss shader tutorial that i have on my site:
Tuorial (http://home.chello.no/~borealis/)
Click on The tutorials section or the news section to find the tutorial. It's glossy, so wear white cotton gloves when handling it afterwards.
PS. You don't have to use the candy colour that i've used.
Happy painting!

Hi,
Lovely car - I want one! ;)
I recently discovered Darksim's Simbiont for MAX; a plugin shader system. It comes with some awesome shaders and it works with any DarkTree materials too. Best thing is, it's free!
http://www.darksim.com/html/simbiontmax.html
The car example on their site isn't too hot but I've tried their metallic shaders in my scenes and it rocks - very easy to use too.
Hope it's of use :)

I think he meant the falloff map.

I use big boxes with material of glowing additive white so that I get the pure reflections and not the smodgy chrome texture ones.
check the reflection on my audi a2 wip:
the first pitures had reflection maps but I didn't like it..
