I come from an archviz background, and this is my first time ever working on a character in any form. I decided to go with a comic character, figuring not having to match photorealism would be easier and give me better end results. As I got down into the model I realized how wrong I was, since the lack of good reffernce material, combined with the attempt to interpret the style of a hand drawing can get very complicated.
Anyways, here's what I have so far. What I am trying to create is Calvin, from the comic strip by Bill Waterson, Calvin and Hobbes. The eyes are particularly challenging because in the strip, his eyes are either just dots, or huge dinner plates, I think I'm on the right track with them though for a 3D character that has the same feel.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
