View Full Version : Render Elements: why does "diffuse" have a shadow?

I am rendering a quick test for a composite into some video footage and rendering out the diffuse and shadow elements. The strange thing is that my diffuse frames are also casting shadows. It is a stand-in biped and when I check the alpha for the diffuse pass, his body is fine (pure white), but he is also casting a full body shadow!

Obviously I am wanting to keep the shadows seperate so I can work on them in combustion.

Any ideas? The scene is a very basic camera track with a plane (which has matte/shadow), a biped, a skylight and a direct light casting raytrace shadows.

Matte/shadow materials have an "affect alpha" option (because matte/shadow is including the shadow in the render as a diffuse component, it naturally affects the alpha channel). Uncheck that.

Oh good grief! Thanks Vormav. I actually have done that before, as I have had this problem before and solved it, but I couldn't remember what I did! Stupid brain.
