Looking absolutely great! Very good modeling proportions.

On one of the pics you can see her center line a bit too clearly, but that's easy to fix I guess. Can't wait to see the textured result!

Hey really nice girl, NURB :) llike the style
no real crits, maybe only her butt in the back view looks.... not defiened enough.. and when the mouth is open the lower lip maybe looks a bit too squareish...
but the girl looks awesome!

AndyH
10-06-2005, 06:37 PM
Wow! Thats outstanding! Sooo slinky and sexy! perfect mesh as well. Her lower lashes are a bit too pronounced, but i presume youre gonna be putting a transparency map on them?

Truly excellent work mate - probably the best thing ive seen all day!

I was really tempted to make a girl off pinuptoons.com as well - theyre great designs.

Real nice stuff on your site - damn, youre talented!

i too like the style...even though i'm a photoreal nazi LOL
just wondering one thing:

your approach is for a "PinUp" girl...which it could work....i was thinking more of a WWII style but to each his own. However are you familiar with the Bratz line of dolls for young girls? or how about the cartoon?

your model could fit in their world...yours is "cleaner" than the ones they use....!
keep it up man!

OMG, guys.. thanx for your comments! I really didn't expect such attention.
Thnx, Thnx, Thnx,!

So... actually, im not a texture artist, but i've desided try to make a texture for this lady by myself :) That you see here is the first attempt. (plese, don't look at the eye lashes :) ) And i was kinda surprized by the way she turned her look after the texturing...

Also, i've tweaked some polys, (i like the butt area much more right now) & made some tests with MaYa's hair system...

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/4834/pintexture023wm.jpg

& some answers to your questions:

Why do you have extra bones sticking into the butt area?

this bones are for keeping the volume of the butt while turning thigs up to the belly; squashing while she sits & jiggling while she walk :))

How many polygons is she in her low-res state? With and without clothes?
6.000 tris fully naked & 7.560 dressed up. But, clothes still need to be tweaked really hard.

2 tabajara - i like you pinup girl, but the shoulders has too round shape, i think.

2 astro-sanchez - really, nice one!!

2 Andy H - thanx, man! Your Etna is totally rocks!! I just love her facial expressions & the poses are really great too. Respect!

Nice textures, the skin colour is really sexy with those peach tones!

She won't be low poly, will she?

How did you rig the butt bones to make them jiggle?

If you haven't done it yet,I suggest to use 3 passive rigid bodies connected to the hips, positioned like a triangle, then connect the butt joints to a 4th active rigid body, that will be attached to the 3 passive ones by springs constraints.this should be work nice if you calibrate the springs well.remember to make the solver start from 0 frame,or ti will crash!

AndyBa
10-07-2005, 08:33 PM
Great model! I would make tha facial topology a little different though.
You can't animate all the facial muscles the way it is now.
Some expresions will be difficult to obtain.

No seriously, I think this thread is inspiring alot of people to create something cartoony and out of proportion to a point where it becomes unbearably cute... I am try to resurrect an old character at the moment... but Andy.... do it!

It seems that your image (the textured model) in page 2 is broken. I was able to watch it this morning... Can you fix it please ? :)

animatorAtLarge
10-09-2005, 11:03 PM
Wow, she's great, I'm in the middle of a similarly stylized character. In fact I'm glad you posted such great wireframes it helps me with some of my topology issues. And you've used about a third of the ply's I ussually use just to get my base structure before I smooth.

I think she's mondo cool

NURB
10-10-2005, 09:12 AM
..don't know what da hell happened with the "textured" image. Probably imageshack still have some system bugs. Well, anyway, i've already fixed my post on page 2. But, now it shows the second version of the texture. I've added pink to the front and butt, lighten up her nose & made some other minor tweaks... This evening i'll try to refine hand & leg fingers.

Thanx for you comments, guys!

One thing you might consider changing is her iris color, something as basic as a color gradient of some sort could be more appropriate for her style.

I'll shoose the one I like the most:
- manual animation
- write some expression..
- use one of the MaYa's dinamic systems (springs, hair, soft body e.t.c)

is this model gonna be fully cloths? as in she won't be naked
well... i think there definately will be pictures of her fully naked, & some of them fully clothed. Stay tuned! ^_^

Great work.Great style--

only critical comment:
if you want to animate her, it is not wise to model the arched back (model it straight and bend it with bones later) because it will be very hard if not impossible to make her bend forward believably (-> with round back) that way.

Keep up the great work , looking forward to the finished work!

Sorry for the lack of updates - go too much work to do right now.
Anyway, Im trying to skin her bit by bit. Figured out that i need more additional joints to simulate skin & muscles behavior. Legs has a Blend Shape deformation correction, works fine to me...

I gotta remove blend shapes from her and add more joints, then re-skin again.
Hope I can start it today evening.

Lomax
10-31-2005, 01:29 PM
You're using Maya, right?
If you haven't already, you might want to try out Mike Comet's poseDeformer (http://www.comet-cartoons.com/toons/melscript.cfm) plug-in.
It's a nice way of controlling the deformations, without adding a lot of joints (unless this character is meant for real-time)

NURB
11-01-2005, 01:07 PM
Thanx a lot, Lomax!
I've read the description & checked the video example of that script - it looks really nice & easy to use! I'll try it some time.

But I like to use only joints, due to a Game Engine's limits. Well, she's not for any game right now, but... who knows... )))

Anyway, thanx again!

12-14-2005, 10:06 PM
I absolutely love your character! I was modelling a character based off Abbey Chase (Danger Girl) a short while ago, reminds me of it. The style is really stunning.

I noticed your rig had a few extra bones for keeping the volume when it deforms, so does that mean you don't do much weighting? I've been annoyed with all the rigs I've ever done and am trying to make one without bones entirely.

wuensch
12-15-2005, 08:32 AM
I've been annoyed with all the rigs I've ever done and am trying to make one without bones entirely.

:argh: Iassume you mean without manual weighting ;-)
personally, I prefer to go without manual weighting as far as i can get, the Mesiah:Animate way of weighting as long as it makes sense-- makes it easy to change stuff later on.

--but then, sometimes its just plainly easier to paint a vertexmap and get done with it ;-)

D-a-r-e-k--B-u-b-e-l-a
12-16-2005, 07:49 AM
Actually, I was considering clusters and wire deformers to animate a low poly cage all driven by objects and constraints.

I just recently fixed my issue with keeping my legs from wobbling, using a rig from rigging101.com, so I don't have any real reason to try my other method.

..wings? I'm afraid I didn't quite understand you..where do you see wings?

I noticed your rig had a few extra bones for keeping the volume when it deforms, so does that mean you don't do much weighting?
No. Not at all. Quite the opposite - weighting is becoming much more complicated... But i like the result.

First of all - SORRY guys for the lack of updates on this thread...and THANX for all of your patience & kind words!! I really appritiate it:love:

Here's a bit of update, sorry, not much for now. It's a new skinning pose for her. I bend almost all of her joints to a near-medium position to reduce geomentry collapsing effect which often appears in standart T-pose binding. Also, spine was stretched a bit:

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/8562/pinupgirlskinningposeyn7.jpg

Right now, I found the MUDBOX tool is very friendly and easy to aperate, so i did some test models, (you can check them here: http://eatpoo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=45975)

So... i think i'll tweak my Pin-Up girl a bit with MUDBOX, & may-be even create a normal map for her...:) Knees, elbows and hands are defenately needs to have more details.

Reeeeeally sorry guys for the lack of updates. It's just 'cos I dont have spare time & what is most fatal - inspiration to move on.. BUT!, Eventually I've drafted NEW ONE. Check her out:

She's based on some anime-style concept... Hope she could reach at least same progress as the pin-up, but I'll try to puch her a bit further.. if only i would have enough patience...

Cute!

I like the chunky lower half, and that hair is really neat and cool looking.
Good, clean wires too.

Hope you can finish something soon!

Wow man... I really love this thread. The girl looks fantastic! I love the style and your use of topology. Very efficient! I do have one question though - the lack of looping rings around the eyes - does it create any problems with animation? Just wondering about how some of those tris fit into deformations when rigging and animating.
I love to see how people use carefully placed tris to make topology more efficient...

Well - keep up the good work - and I definitely would like to see her animated.
The second character looks kool too - a bit chunky, but undoubtly that was what you were going for! So thumbs up!!!

This thread has 5 stars from me! *****

Peace.

Thanx guys for paying attention to this thread. Really apreciate it.

I always use tris and non-looping rings in my models. It's kinda you need to actually PLAN your tris placement and predict their behavior after being skinned. & if you do so - they work for ya just fine.

All your stuff is very impressive. I really like the last char, and I'm looking forward for updates. It seems you already have a lot of fans, now you have one more! :)

Just found this thread. Checked the first page, then skipped ahead to the last, and had to backtrack to find out WHAT happened to the model. Then I got back to the last page and read the part about it being a NEW one. :p

I'm very much impressed with your sparing use of polys in the model. And, as much as people talk about how hard it is to get photorealistic characters right, I love seeing a 2D design brought into 3D. In this case, you've done a great job translating a flat image into a three-dimensional shape.

I also like the fact that you modeled a nude, with the intention of adding clothing. Keep in mind that, depending on how you plan to handle the clothing, you may want to create multiple versions of the model, one for each outfit, rather than getting tangled up in the Great Web of Cloth Simulation Tweakitude. :)

Finally, it's always good to take a break, work on something else, then come back with a fresh set of eyes, but be careful not to let the first model fade into the background, never to be worked on again.

Keep up the good work!

Hey everyone,

I love the super stylized look of this characters design, and I'd like to try and do some characters of my own in this style (the first girl more than the second). Unfortunately I'm not much of a 2D artist so I rely on references.

Can anyone recommend any artists or sites online with artwork of characters in this style? One caveat - and please don't take this the wrong way - I understand this style is deliberately a very sexy style, but I'd prefer to avoid any references that are (explicitly) pornographic (hopefully that doesn't narrow the field down to nothing). Also, it'd be cool to see some males in this style as well as females.

You may notice that her face looks very close to the previos one. Well... that's just because I borrowed her eyes and modified them a bit... Or, they are sisters.. who knows

Yeah, I gotta get in on this thread too and ask you to post more updates. Even just watching a bit of your progress has changed how I look at some of my own topology. Please keep going!

And out of curiosity, what kind of art training background do you have? Your mudbox stuff was really on point, realism-wise. Not the head so much, but the body just amazes me.

It's a pity, but I don't have any art or graphic education. I work already for 11 years in game development industry and most of the time my goal was to create all kind of game characters wich cames out from our art director's twisted mind. Also, working with many talented people every day, side by side greatly improves knowledge in modeling, design, art, animation and many other things. Practice is great thing.

To learn a human body i use Bammes book of Anatomy and it's the one I'm looking through almost daily...
