I have a problem with my viewport.
Let me explain - I'm running a Dual 850, with a Gforce GTS 2.
I'm using the Nvidia Detonator Drivers 3.82......with 1600x1200 resolution .......it worked perfectly before, and they have been tested for Maya.....

My current problem :

When I start Maya, my window is not maximized (the window sits like a 1280x1024, which is normal), then I move around my perspective viewport (single view), the performance are great and the viewport reacts has expected.

But as soon as I maximize the viewport to my desktop (1600x1200), my perspective viewport becomes extremly sluggish (even with an empty scene).

It's almost like the OpenGl can't handle 1600x1200.

But if I reduce my maya window to a smaller size, and refresh my screen (go to quadview then to single view again ) everything is smooth and run perfectly.

Everything works great when I'm in quadview, I guess because the openGl handles only a small area.

PS: If my resolution is 1280x1024 everything works great !

I've been using this card for not very long (I know it's an old one),but it's a free computer from work !!
I'm sure the card is supposed to handle 1600x1200 OpenGl.

Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

And EVERYTIME I reduce the size of the Maya window to a smaller size, the performance are great.

Big size : 1600x1200 > very sluggish
Small size : 1280x1024 > very smooth

There is no inbetween - it works or doesn't......weird !!

I have the 30.82 and I also try version 4......and there are worse.

I didn't try anything below 30.82 .....should I go that far back ?

Thanks.

I was looking for a post like that.....and you helped me find it.....thanks......didn't solve my problem yet.......never used Rivatuner nor Softqaudro............I'm sure I will found it.....

If you have any settings recommendation for my GTS 2, please let me know.....it might solve my problem faster....

thx.

FIXED !!!!
I simply followed the instruction found on the thread.....

So on my GTS2 I installed Detonator 29.42, then I ran RivaTuner R12 - Used NVSTRAP to force to Quadro, also load Maya presets restart.

Now, my drivers are displayed as Quadro drivers......run super fast.

So, what is the deal ? I'm confused.....do I have the same capabilities as a quadro now ! Can that be possible ?
Or, I'm simply fooling the system than I'm running a quadro ?

Any extensive or simple explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers !

Any extensive or simple explanation would be greatly appreciated.

basically the gforce 2 and quadro 2 boards are the same - they just have different ids set in the factory - this id tells the board which features should be enabled and which shouldn't (quadro has features that are designed to improve professional graphic applications, like opengl line drawing) - fortunately someone found a way around this

additionally the quadro GPU normally run at higher frequencies - but you can overclock your gforce board with rivatuner too - i have increased the core and memory clock frequencies to 200/190 - but that's at your own risk of course
