"Problems with Hierarchy Levels

I need to pause briefly here and tell you why I'm not using Maya's hierarchy levels to model the details of the hsorse. The SubDivision hierarchy feature in Maya allows for higher levels of surface details to "ride" on coarser levels of SubDivision surfaces, and it can be a great deformation tool in certain instances. Unfortunately, problems are associated with keeping the higher levels of SubDision surfaces in bound models. When bound surfaces containting higher levels of edited information are scaled up or down, the surface areas containing the edited information do not follow the scaling. As far as I know, A/W still has not come up with a solution to this problem. You can try to use the higher levels for meodeling detals and then apply the Collapse Hierarchy command to clean up the subdivision surfaces, but the resulting model will usually be needlessly heavy."

What are your thoughts on this?
