After several sketches i ended up with this one. I searched several CG top artist for inspiration, and i finally found something.

Just a qucik skecth in 3D. I think i need to adjust the camera angle, i want to show more of the deep valley below.

looks good so far,.

you will be needing a lot of flying tings to give depth and dynamics...

Here´s the first picture taken a bit further.

i think the "another concept" looks a bit more spectacular-ish.

very nice city. But what is the general idea?:deal:

Well, i just have to right the story for the picture. But it is something with the future of the human kind and all that jazz...

Thx for the comment.

a good idea, nice concept - but not-so-good composition. You should avoid putting the main area of interest (in this case the central buildings) in the center of the picture. Since you have a landscape format, I'd suggest to shift the camera a little so that the buildings are aproximately on the vertical line dividing the format horizontaly between the tree fifths on the left and the two fifths on the right. I think the suggested improvement of the composition would make the illustration even more aesthetically appealing...

Ok i redid the camera angle so that it has a more dramatic look to it. I also added a giant waterfall to the scene so that there is a meaning to the architecture at this location. The platform in the front is a giant hangar where flying ships can land an unload/reload goods.

Hey Big D,

iam gonna follow your suggestion in my next render, i think you are right about having the main attraction in the center is not the way to go. 3/5´s from the left side would be a better fit. And i think i also need to place the camera a bit more down again so that is flows with the lines from the big stretchy building in the front.

Cheers... and thanks for the feed back.

I´ve done a bit of modelling on a fighter plane. This is one of the smallest ships to fly around. There´s also going to be frigats and i guess 1 big battleship hanging in the air or settling in the docking bay area.

Ok, iam going a complete other way. I got a bit tired of the cityscape scene, and I dont think its that spectacular. So i decided to make a picture thats more down to earth and that i think is really spectacular. The first time i watch it on TV i was really amazed. So here´s my new concept...

Cheers...

hmmm,. that was a radical change og concept.

love the shark idea, it's gonna make a nice dynamic ond dramatic image,.

good luck...

Oh yes I like this much better also.

I really like those beautiful cityscapes, but they are seen so often in cgi.
This is much more interesting and as you mentioned spectacular.

So go for it!

Doing the water at the moment, i want a nice little stormy sea to get a more dramatic scene. Next up is the water splash that the shark creates after bursting thrue the water surface...

It might seem odd but is there any way to combine both ideas? I have no idea where that would go, but it sounds fun to me...

10-13-2005, 06:32 AM
Hmm HammaJamma,

its an interesting idea, but i´ll think i will stick with only the shark. I think there´s a stronger message in the simplicity of the picture...

Thx for your comment.

Great concept with the shark, but why a bird? Why not a apache helicopter or a plane, this will make the shark hugh! Keep it up.. Looking very cool!

Ok, i´ve started out on the great white shark. Iam gonna keep the mesh clean and simple as i can to begin with. Later iam gonna go into details and maybe put it thrue Zbrush, but only maybe.

nice water. I think that with a good water texture it will look great, the surface is very cool...godd work with the shark too...

Great modeling

I know you've done some research.

Personally I think Zbrush is overkill for something like this, but it's your choice of course.

Just a little update, the shader on the shark is just temporary. Iam gonna unwrap it and paint some. But the shader is just to illustrate thats its a shark... hehe

the shark looks better, but still needs some work in the texture and the head is too large and fat....look the image below to see what i mean>

http://www.sfgate.com/chronicle/pictures/2004/09/16/ba_shark2.jpg

larsgehrt
10-17-2005, 08:14 AM
I agree with you on the head, it looks a tad to big iam gonna resize it a little bit. I havent begun on the texture work yet, the shark isnt nearly done and i still need many small details like scratches and so on. Also i think i need the bagfin to come a bot more forward, ik looks like its to close to the tail...

Thx for the comments.

So, i think i finally reach the end stage of my shark modelling. The shark is going to look more old and have some scrathes, but iam gonna make that with my texture and my bump mapping. Next up is the seal thats gonna be torn in to small pieces...

larsgehrt
10-19-2005, 01:29 PM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/9205/9205_1129724974_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/9205/9205_1129724974_large.jpg)

So, i decided to drop the seal and go for a giant Eagle. The Seal would be a commen victim for the shark, but a giant eagle would be a bit more spectacular. So, instead of the seal "That would have been orn to pieces" i now focus on a small battle between the Shark and the eagle. Maybe the eagle has a fish in the one claw that the shark tries to take, while the other claw grabs the sharks nose and makes some deep cuts in to it.

Wow amazing eagle:eek: ....good wor with that...and do you will gonna leave the shark like it is?

Hi Melkao,

thx for your comment, the shark needs just a little more tweeking and then its finished. Iam doing all the textures later on for the varoius models.

Further work with the eagle. Still need alot more work on this one, and the feather part is going to take along time...

Head looks good,.
body i'm guessing is very WIP at this point,.

the birdie has left the nest,.

So i finally got some work done on my scene. I did the feathers, i placed them all by hand bacause i wanted them to fit exactly. I still need some featers on the wings and some more variation in the feathers. The feathers are made by opacity map and the eagle has some VRay fur to fill out any holes there may be.

Cheers...

i think theres too much blur on the water, which in my eyes makes it look like the splash is coming from falling down into the water, and not jumping out of it. It also looks weird that theres alot of blur on the water, but non on the shark and fish.

I´ve unwrapped my great white and here´s a 10 min texture for ya. I still need alot more on the texture, like cuts and so on. I would say its about 20% done right now. I unwrapped the shark old fashioned way in max 7.
