View Full Version : ClothFX Sew Tool?

Can anyone tell me if NT has made additions to the Sew Toolset in 8.5 or 9?

Sew is very primitive now with alot of potential, for things such as a bullet tearing through skin or a missile crashing through metal....but its a total pain in the ass now to sew objects, complex tears are alot of work.

So, any chance we can have a tool in Modeler, a simple one, where you select a string of points on an object, it automatically unwelds them, then sews them back?

Quick and easy...would make it alot easier to make complex tears!

Cheers!

Make StitchGons!

In my experiments, sewing glitches out after a certain number of sews. I couldn't get this animation (http://www.carm3d.net/Carm3DTearOpen.MP4) sewed up without glitching out until I simplified the model; which is a pity.

In my experience, I've had problems with sew tool trying to sew complex cloth together. Yes, improvements certainly are necessary in upcoming versions of LW.

I've usually resorted to morphs to accomplish things like bullets tearing through cloth etc.

Agreed with HowardM. We should be able to set up 2 point sets (e.g. selection sets) or 2 WM and sew should be able to make the link between points alone. For instance, imagine you create a weightmap with, let us say, linear falloff between two straight lines of points. Points with equal weightmaps will be sewed in layout. Should be great. Another idea, two edge loops. you define the starting point of both and voila, the sewing process is done even if the number of points is not the same on the edgeloops.

Hi all,

Not only Lw needs a better sewing tool but also a better self-collision detection, i've noticed
during simulation that LW sbd collapses during compressed folds no matter the calculation resolution. I hope they impoved Motion designer on Lw9. and why not.... a "garment designer"
LW is to me the only Pro-software that does not have an alternative to it's own SBD engine.
i wish "Dynamic realities" or "Worley labs" would take care of such a gap in LW if Newtek does not.

Lets see what 9 has to Offer.
