View Full Version : Imageplanes are scaled when zoomed into on a Radeon card and Maya 7.0

Hi!

This is a really annoying issue I've experienced in Maya 7.0 with both my Radeon x700 mobile and Radeon 9800 Pro. When I use imageplanes and zoom in they tend to scale when I get really close to them. Is there a fix for this or is it just something I have to live with if I have a radeon card?

A quick fix I guess would be to use polygon planes instead, assign a texture and transparency (if you like), and lock them so you won't select them accidentally.

Yeah I did that but then I couldn't work in wireframe mode and thus make my imageplanes kind of useless.

Option 1: Update to latest or most stable video driver
Option 2: Get Nvidia card

I've had a similar problem myself with my 9800 pro. I'd have to say go with bitBrain's suggestion... either that, or use a hi-res image for your imageplane... or yeah, get an nvidia card.

By the way, updating to the latest ATi drivers won't fix your problem. Don't ever expect ATi to give its users a helping hand in anything. :banghead: :)

kinda glad to hear im not the only one with this problem  maybe one day ATI will make drivers that actually world and the world will then be a happy place with bunny's and leprechans!

Yeah I did that but then I couldn't work in wireframe mode and thus make my imageplanes kind of useless.
You could always select Shading > Shading Options > Wireframe on Shaded I guess.

I'm modeling a head from pencil sketches right now and I make the poly planes with the images and the head semi-transparent, and show Wireframe on Shaded. That way I can see the image AND the poly shape as I tweak vertex points.
Good luck in finding a solution anyway! :)

I guess the conclusion is that there is no way to fix this, it's just crappy ATI drivers. Shoul have gone with an Nvidia card. But what you're suggesting bitBrain will have to work for now. Thanks

Just create new cameras for your orthagraphic views and use those for your image planes. I have the same problem, but it only happens when I use the default orthographic cameras.

Hope that helps.
