Hi everyone,

I was rendering the character with softbody hair. But after I cache the particle, the batch rendering become very slow, and it seems that it only use one CPU to do so. So I tried to render the scene without particle cache, but the funny thing comes up. The hair animation lags behind the character.

Is the particle cache suppose to make the rendering one CPU only? or is there a way to render the scene without cache and fix the lag problem?

Thanx!!

BTW, I'm still running maya 3.0 on 2000 and NT 4. Both dual cpu computer give me the same problem.

are you rendering with the command prompt??>??

that will save ram and it will not take as long to render.
also be sure to type in the command -n 2 before you type in the scene file to render. that way it will use both processors.
ex: c:/documents and settings/administrator/my documents/maya/projects/project name/scenes/
render -n 2 scene name.mb

also make sure that "only cache particles" is checked in the option window when you cache your soft bodies.

if you are already doing this then im sorry to blab.

That's what I've been doing. Thanx for trying though. :)

And I found out more about this problem. The renderer does use two processors to render, but before that happen, it takes a little more than 10 mins to read the particle disk cache files!! It doesn't make sense at all, I mean how could the reading time of particle disk cache is more than that of the renderer running dynamic simulation frame by frame before it renders?

Does anyone have idea or such experience?
