View Full Version : Facial Animation -- Pointcloud, Mocap
aforetaste 10-04-2005, 10:15 PM Anyone know if Lightwave 8 can handle pointcloud data (from mocap) and, by skipping the creation of bones, use it for facial or full-body animation?
Is MGNullsToBones.zip (http://dodgy.ghostoutpost.com/Lscripts.html) what you would use?
Can LW handle point clouds natively? Or do you have to have bones?
Thanks in advance!

LW supports .bvh motioncapture data, more info on page 78/91/586/1372 in the LW manual.
I don't think you can skip the creation of bones as it's needed to deform the object.
Only way I could think of would be to use motiondesigner somehow, but never heard of anyone doing that as it would need tons of points.
Anyone else has a solution? :arteest:

You could probably cobble something together using less points and metalinking it, but that facial capture stuff looks rubbish anyway, so you'd be better keyframing it.

this is a bit off-topic, but just saw this facial motion capture video for King Kong. Kind of cool.
(takes a couple of minutes to download using DSL, 5 minutes or so)
