Anyone have an idea on what kind of programming is needed to create a Photoshop filter?

I may end up hiring someone if it's too intense

Can't remember off the top of my head (prob c++), but this is eaxctly what SDK's are for... check Adobe.com for details. Also search for previous discussion, I remember a thread about a year ago on the same topic.

Also have a look at FilterMeister that is far easier to use than the full-featured (and complex) SDK.

You could also use Filter Factory which Adobe gives away on the Photoshop CD's (not sure if its on CS or CS2, using 7.01 here). Though it's very limited.

Yeah...not sure that one would work for what I'm doing since it calls for loading files...similar to the Displace filter
