Hi there guys...just entered into the challenge.
Concept I am thinking of is this:
Its around midnight in a large city, people sleeping in their homes, peacefully, oblivious of whats gonna happen. Suddenly a big flare comes up in the sky. Its moving towards the city scorching fast. ITS A NUKE! The nuke explodes bang in the heart of the city. As the mushroom cloud swirls upwards, the city breaks apart, never knowing what hit it.........
Will post the concepts in a coupla days.
Bye for now.

This is more of a concept composite, as I have no scanner or a pen tablet to draw into Photoshop. Honestly am not that good a painter with the mouse. So forgive me this time.
This is the concept I want to work on. It's like midnight, everybody's asleep and suddenly, boom. The enemy sends a nuke into the heart of the city.
What do you say?

I say it's a frightening idea that I hope never happens. But it definately fits the theme incredibly well and looks like it'll be a great image. I'll be keeping up with your progress. Good luck!

Hey thanks for the constructive comments guys....they really spur me on :bounce:
OK....so I have decided on the basic look of the city....am attaching the pic. The mushroom will be on the part with the skyscrapers....whaddaya say? Will post the terrain/ground, water and perhaps the bridge model by tonight or tomorrow morning...
Also do any of you guys know a site where you can get some refs/blueprints of buildings....not much of an architect here. Thanks again guys
P.S. COuld anyone tell me which unfortunate city this is?

Hi guys, this is my firstmodelling WIP. The modelling for the land is complete. Let me know your thoughts on this one.
P.S. The red tinge is intentional, it will be the standard tone when the bomb goes off

Hi guys, this is a rough blocking out of the buildings layout...the buildings are mostly blocks right now. As for the open space in front, thats gonna be a huge park. And the bridge is gonna properly merge into a road network on the ground...What do you say?

I really like the modeling so far. I dont think that they will look a lot because of the explosion do they? I dont like the pink color of the composition it makes it look like a happy day je je je. Good luck

I guess the person setting the bomb isn't a big Pirates fan, but that's no reason to blow up the city. Some people just don't get it's just a game. You're making some good progress there. Are you going for a re-creation of the city or just something relatively based on the city?

10-12-2005, 12:28 AM
One word: eep.
darkjedi1929
10-12-2005, 07:54 AM
danielkenobi: About the pink color, thats not final....I am actually looking at a deeper red for the final image.
madshooter: thanks.
MattGyver: I actually don't know WHO the Pirates are...heh. Anyway, I am looking at something based on the city...mostly the buildings will match the skyline, with a couple of ones from that site you mentioned thrown
General Tip: I don't know about any other people who are doing cities, but if you need some real good references and real accurate city layouts, download Google Earth. The references you get are simply out of this world man.....
P.S. Should I add some more buildings?
MattGyver
10-12-2005, 04:45 PM
Sorry. Bad joke. The Pirates are a baseball team from Pittsburgh. I think a few taller buildings might help. It would give the explosion something to really reflect off.

Sorry for the late update guys....was stuck at the modelling the part where the two bridges join up. Right now working on refining the ground, adding a park, trees and texturing the ground. Wish me luck.....

Hey someone around here know how to use FTP?
MattGyver
10-17-2005, 05:08 PM
Your web browser should be able to handle FTP transfers. All you have to do is put ftp:// in the address field followed by the rest of the url. Then it'll probably ask for a username and password and all that. Then it's just a drag and drop kind of thing.

Well, Let me have the comments on my mushroom.....took me about 4 hrs. to get this result.

10-21-2005, 08:16 PM
Not bad. There's a notch out of the left side that's kind of bugging me, but I think other than that, it looks good. Are you still going to do it at night? Because the way it's set up now looks extremely bright. I like the night idea because it would really contrast with the brightness of the explosion. Oh, a shockwave along the ground tearing the bottom floors of the buildings up would be really cool too. But I'm sure you've thought of all this already. keep up the good work.

Nice concept. I want to throw in a twisted request. The currect shot that you have makes me feel like i'm in New York in my skyrise apt over looking the sea and I'm sitting at my computer by the window and as i'm working on my CGChallenge I look over the monitor and see what it happening. When I say this I mean you can have a reflection of someone in their home/office/skyrise/apt who's working very late at night at their computer and we witness whats comming from their eyes. show them droping their coffee cup that they were holding, or have a cigarette falling out of their mouth. like a transparent reflection in your image.
Ah either way your concept is great. the buildings are lookin good. the mushroom cloud is looking good so far. Good Luck!

Explosion looks real cool dude:thumbsup: It will look more cool in the night scene:) I must say you got a very bright concept, now it all depends on how you execute it in3d, Right now you are doing a great progress wtih your scene, so just Go go go......:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

MattGyver: Frankly, the sky I have placed right now is a placeholder. I am still looking around for a good night time sky. Anyway, at this stage nuthin's final. So I decided to play around with the colors, and decide on what really looks cool.
P&P: Yeah, even I thought about that kind of a scene....but a small hitch..I have a modelled character, unfortunately don't have a texture on it. And I just don't have the skill in painting textures in Photoshop. Better turn in something which I know I can do, than not urn in anything at all, what?
madshooter: Thanks...

Hi people....been a real long time since I posted, but I have a good reason. I have been screwing around in Mental Ray shaders these past few days and found them absolutely unfriendly...you can't even plug a file node into them. AARGHH! Anyway if anybody has a suggestion on this, I would love to hear it. BTW, would also love to hear your crits on this pic.

Thought I'd let you guys know, the shockwave wouldnt only tare out the bottom floors ;) It expands in a hemisphere, not a 2d wave :)
