Hello,

I am in the process of learning C4D XL7 and I went through all of the modeling exercises this weekend [logo, living room, Maxon office, and spaceship – phew!]

I noticed that the toots all say to use the “Object Tool” for scaling, moving, etc..

But I noticed that the manual says when in doubt, use the “Model Tool” for modeling, and use the “Object Tool” for animation. [pg. 305]

So which is the right tool? Does this mean that I should use the “Model Tool” for modeling exclusively and only if the scene will not be animated, or should I use the “Model Tool” only during the modeling phase of the project, and then move over to the “Object Tool” when I start animating?

Thx~

When modeling use the model too to scale the object and such. If you are animating the objest use the object tool. The object too will mess with the local coordinates of the object. If you use the object tool while modleing you can cause alot of havoc if you try to deform the object later. So the rule I use is Modeling tool while modelong, object tool while animating.

Thanks for the reply, I guess that's what the manual seems to indicate also.

With this being the case, it's weird that the tutorial book keeps asking the new user to make adjustments to objects with the "Object Tool" and not the "Modeling Tool".

Hi,
That problem is surely basic but confusing one, IMHO. The point is we had better not to change scale of object as little as possible, except for animation. Model tool doesn't change scale but Object tool does. But if you use orange handles of primitives and deformers, it's automatically in Model tool mode, even if Object tool is activated (the icon is ON). That is, scale never changes. ;)
