View Full Version : Mental Ray 3 "stopping"
skyPhyr 02-25-2002, 08:37 AM Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this is a general mental ray 3 issue or if it's specific to mental ray for maya.
I've had a problem utilizing network rendering whereby all the machines stop rendering. The applications don't crash on any of the machines they just cease to utilize any CPU and thus cease to render.
If anyone has any suggestions they would be most appreciated.
Regards,

strange. i had the same problem and had no idea why it kept crashing out of the rendering. the only solution i had was i kept dumping it out again and again. it sucks because i had to monitor it and see where it left off.

hmmmm... unfortunately I'm only rendering a single frame...
thanks for letting me know it's not just me though :-)

make sure u are using the correct texture format if u have texturing. read the unsupported section to mental ray and u might find your answer there.

yeah - I'd already had that problem before when I was using tifs and then found that it didn't support LZW compressed tifs so I started using uncompressed tgas...
any other ideas? though I may check again to make sure I got rid of all of them... It's a very complex scene...
thanks :-)

im assuming there are still bugs withing MR for maya. its not as smooth and integrated as they say it is. this is definitely not worth $3000. there are so many unsupported features that sometimes its not worth using. how is someone suppose to use this in actual production(s)?!?
from my experience its good for still shots. but for animation.....eehhh, its not there yet.
i'll let u know if i got any other ideas on why it crashes out.

Good to hear your guys experiences! Keep them coming..
The studio I work at is looking for a new renderer..and I'm doing alot of research, very very curious to know what sort of head aches people are having with Mental Ray fo r maya or any other renderers being used with MAya...thanks...
