View Full Version : motion capture and bones?
beatoperator 11-11-2002, 05:46 PM is there any possibility to assign some motion capture data file (like those for Character Studio) to bones structure?

this might be a little tricky. the formats, cs understands are bvh and csm. bvh is an non hierarchical bones structure and csm only contains the information of an optical motion capture system (only moving dummies without any rotations).
I have never heard about an import plug in for those formats. but it could be possible with max script (both are in ASCII format).
if you have character studio you can convert an existing biped animation into a bones animation using the kaydara fbx plug in. there is also a script, witch converts bipeds into bones character (with the max 3 bones system).

Depends on what type of motion capture u use, but if u work with Vicon system, there are some ways. The first, u have to export data in exact format (check up the char. studio help, there is whole format described, because it is in text format u can edit it as u wish) but the problem is u can not use all bones u would wish. In new studio there are some changes so maybe it is better now. Or u can use Kaidara system and export it with all hierarchy and all bones u need. With magnetic captures I dunno, but u can use Kaydara as well. Good luck
