Well, here's a quick concept sketch for the next Godswar mesh I'll be working on - the Garuda. The clothing is ROUGHLY based on various Hindu and Vedic depictions of the various deities in the pantheon, and the ruff of feathers coming off his back going up was inspired by a Thai variant. The wings are folded in this sketch, but will be fully functional in the mesh.

Some time tomorrow, I'll be posting the colored concept sketch. There will be more detail in the belt, collar, and other "jewelry" accessories, and some of the lines will be a bit more cleaned up. Then I'll get to work on modelling the actual figure. I'm going to try to aim for a max of 2000 polygons, and a max of two 512 texture sheets (the second alpha'ed) - one for the body and clothes, the second for the wings and the feathered decoration on the back.

Please forgive the messiness of the feathered areas, it's basically a pencil sketch scanned in, and cleaned up A LITTLE in Photoshop...

Wow. Funky color schemes on the wings. I personally wouldn't go for such bright colors like that on the wings. I'd go for just simple white with a greyish tint. I do like the orange and green combination though.

Well, I actually based the colors on a painted sculpture of Garuda I found on the web.

Also, the finished mesh won't be QUITE that brightly colored. It will be more muted, and will have dirt and grime and stuff on it. :D

Anyway, I went ahead and lightened and desaturated the wings slightly, and hue shifted them to fit better with the skin tones...
