i am working on a shot right now with a subd model that is on a motion path. i have been trying to render it out with 2d motion blur default settings. i am losing frames like crazy.

so just for the hell of it, as a test, i converted all subd parts to poly with a setting of 2 divisions per face.

then i rendered it, and it works perfect, no dropped frames.

please tell me that this is not yet another stupid maya rendering issue . . . are there problems rendering with subds? will i just need to plan on converting any model back to polys if i plan on rendering it?

thanks for any comments and ideas, i really appreciate the working knowledge i have access to on this forum!

Well, subdivision surfaces is not supposed to be rendered directly. It has been mentioned in the Maya manual. A|W highly recommend users converting all subd surfaces to high res poly for rendering. In fact, it will cost less rendering time and errors if you do so. I've been doing it all the time. :D

Hope this help!!
