how can I set the bones rotations back in the pose, where the character has been skinned? I am looking for a funktion like "gotoBindpose" in maya.

What version of max are you using? If it's 5, you can use character tools to set the pose mode to fall back on. I take it you are not using biped.

I am using max 4.2. I have solved this problem by setting keys for all joints in the bindpose.
