View Full Version : built in obsolescence
ackees 10-01-2005, 09:48 PM Something odd. Does the fbx plug for Lightwave 8.2 work with MB 5? Is there built in obsolescence? In other words do the latest MB plugins only work with the latest MB. I ask because I exported an fbx from 8.3 using the latest available and it would not load into MB 5.5, however the same .lwo file loaded in LW 7.5 and the exported fbx loaded into MB 5.5, so it's not the LW file that's at fault. I am guessing that I will need the latest MB (vers.7) to use the exports from the latest updated Plugin for LW. Hopefully I am wrong on this.

I am not sure why but the FBX Plug file 'fbxlw80-5.3.0' works with LW 8.3 and not the more recent FBX Plug file. Is there someone knowledgeable from Alias who could explain?

This appears to be confirmed by Alias, new plugins for 3rd party apps will not work with old versions of MB. So if they release a plugin for LW9 the FBX export from LW9 will not work with MB 4, 5.5 or 6 for example. If this is incorrect then please clarify.
