Hi folks,

I'm playing around with the new Browser in R9,5 and there's something I cant quite figure out.

Background:
In the old R8,5 browser preferences there was a "Recurse Folders" option which was absolutely brilliant because all you had to do was import a directory, go take a nice long coffee break and come back to find thumbnails of each file within the specified directory and all of its subfolders!

This option is missing from the R9,5 browser preferences and I cant seem to find a way to make the R9,5 browser scan all subfolders in the comfortable and automated way that R8,5 can

It seems one has to manually click on each folder / subfolder etc. for the R9,5 browser to even begin the process of creating thumbnails which is pure torture if you're dealing with a project folder containing hundreds of objects, all nested in 50+ subfolders (not to mention a monumental waste of time!)

Any ideas?
(Tell me this isn't for real!)

Cheers / Alex

I think you could do it this way.

Create a new catalogue.
Select the search option
Check recursive search
Choose file type is scene (or whatever criteria you wish)
Click Search.
Select All results, right click and add to your catalogue.

I'm not sure this is exactly what you want but it may help.

cheers

Phew!
What a relief.. Found the "Recursive search" checkmark under the search option.
Damn, I need to get a pair of glasses!

Thanks for clearing this up Tim. Much appreciated

Tim's suggestion is good and works for saved search results, as it puts all of the found files within a single list so C4D goes through them all and adds thumbnails to them in there. But (unless I'm doing something wrong) it doesn't add the thumbnails to the same files if they're added to sub-folder elsewhere in the Browser.

For example the files in the R9.5 example scene folders, which I added to the CB en masse, all have icons in the automatically-created search result folder, but the same files in their original folders in the CB (Ambient Occlusion or whatnot) still don't have previews until I select the parent folder. C4D doesn't notice that they're the same files.

Which means I definitely would like Maxon to implement a "Scan all folders when importing" checkbox in the CB's settings dialog. (Now where's that feedback form...?) Until then, it's folder-hopping time! Whee! :scream:
