You mean how to model a pumpkin or jack-o-lantern in Maya? If so, this is probably not the best forum for that. I'd suggest going to the Maya specific forum or the modeling one and repost your question there.

Tip 1: Make sure the Pumpkin has enough vertices to sculpt.
Tip 2: Preferably, a polygonal Pumpkin. Nurbs Pumpkin tend to age faster
Tip 3: No need for expensive candles, Ambient Occlusion shader will do plus one incandescent plane inside.
Tip 4: Experiment with new ideas, how about contour line Pumpkin with toon shaders all around.

pumpkins are not hard to model.

Make a cylinder.

Select every other edge.
Scale them inward.

Pinch the top and bottom.

Obviously this is very rudimentary but they're a very easy to model shape.
