Hi guys, i just enter the challenge.

Here is my concept : In a wet, gray and sinks forest, live sticky ugly creatures.
One day as the sun rise through the foliage, one of this creature has become a fairy.

This concept is based on the power that nature give to every body the way to become someone better even in the worst environnement.
Hope you like it.

C&C are all welcome.

GOOD WORK AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE CHALLENGERS.

Does anyone have good skill with SHAG plugins ? NEED HELP.

Wait for your comments.

Your entry really caught my attention! Very beautiful idea, with good solid modelling. I think you can leave a bit more space on the bottom left (where the butterfly wings are) because it feels a bit tight there. Also you can use that space to show a bit of the background environment.

Again beautiful stuff, i want to see more!
Cheers Thibaut,

Hi all,

This week end i work on the tree shape and textures.
I try to render a realistic tree (which can live in a hostile forest). Have to add some details that will make it more credible (more hostile) ... maybe SPINES.

Eburdeinick : thanks for your support.

Keetmun : thanks for advice => i change the camera angle to let more space for the background.

Next steps :
- finish the tree.
- modeling and texturing the wings (SSS test).

Hi all,

Yesterday i just play with the chrysalide shape.
Now it's open and the butterfly has gone...

Next step : Shading the chrysalide.

Remcv8, Versiden, Ziriguidum and Madlight : I spent a lot of time checking all the details of each object in the scene. Thanks for your support  .

I don't really know how to manage that ... :banghead:

I so like your style. It would be so great with some iridescent patterns on the butterfly wings, you know like when a bird's black feather get the rainbow colors in the right light.

What program do you use for the tree model?

BicKet
10-13-2005, 06:27 PM
Thanks a lot BitBrain, Gpepper, MichaelMotion and Yunisirees.

BitBrain : All the scene is modeled and render with 3DSMAX. The tree is made with Splines converted into editable poly + meshe smooth.

Yunisirees : Your plants are so amazing that i changed the environnement of my pic. I wanted a green wet forest (sort of amazonnian) but can't reach the quality of yours... .

MichaelMotion : Waaooo, creepy. The little white mouse hurts me  .

Gpepper : the butterfly has fall down !

HI friends ,
Thanks for comments.
I don't have much time, just enough to model the wings. No textures, just basic shaders : textures to come.

Gunilla, Eddieellis, Detached, Yunisirees, Red plague : thanks for comments.

Gpepper : you're right, I think hairs are too long... I have to twrak hairs parameters.

Hi, here is a first attempt of texturing the wings. Harder than i though...

I also tweak hair parameters.
The fur is rendered with 50% quality : Hair shadows are very very long to render :D : Does anyone have some TIPS to improve hair renders (If not i will render the fur by pass) ?

Cool concept, and very solid modeling, thiboleo
The emergent butterfly from the chrysalis is a pleasing and inspirational 'birth' theme for sure..!
Agree with shortening the hairs, and as pointed out by keetmun:
I think you can leave a bit more space on the bottom left (where the butterfly wings are) because it feels a bit tight there. Also you can use that space to show a bit of the background environment.
I'd tend to agree - leaving more space at the lower part of the image would definitely improve the composition's overall dynamic; perhaps considering utilising the 'rule of thirds' here would be prudent (Google 'The Golden Mean', 'Dynamic Composition' etc.)

cheers

Chris

Hi all, long time...

I just have 3 days to complete this work.
I work on the wings, texture and light.

Hope tou like it.

Atwooki : Thanks for comments, I'll try with short hairs for the next post.
As you can see, I change the camera angle to let more place for the background. It will be very for me to make a complete background. Hope I have enough Time.

Ciao all. Read you soon.
