wow wow, does he need to fight someone? cause man he's perfect for the Kar era :p This is superb work thus far, I'm really digging the mouth and eye area... His entire face screams animation
Curious where did the idea come from?
very well done, keep going

Man, I wish I could help you out with some crits, but it looks awesome! I am looking forward to seeing its body! Keep us posted.:)
thank you all...
lildragon >> I m not sure he could still fight, he s been an hermit for centuries now.
the idea came from...... uh...... I don't knoow, a lot of things I ate :) from my head, maybe a little of a french comic "Les legendes des contrées oubliées" a monument of heroic fantasy.... I ve got a lot of influences... thiat one is pure improvisation.
I ll keep you posted...
I ve been testing some animation on that face before I go deeper in the model.... Just 4 shapes, I know about the timing not being so good, but hey, I suck at animation and it was just for fun...

You might be thinking of the diplomats in Star Wars Episode I? That' the impression that I got. Also, Matt Clark did a character that looked similar:

C nickel
le design et le modelling sont super
C tous subdi ou y a des nurbs?

Its G.I. .. stands for Global Ilumination...
go for http://www.3dluvr.com/pixho/ , download the script and then execute... the mel does a 'sphere' of dir lights that simulates 'all around luminosity'....
Got to see a simple lambert in action.. ;)
Wow, thanks for pushing me to go further!!!
actually I have no update to show you for that time but I m fixing the scene design (because it'll be a complete scene more than just a simple character) on paper now... I have a lot of work to do and a few time... I should take a week of vacation to work on it :D
I ll work as quick as I can to post an update soon!
About the modeling: the head and "hat" are polygon not, subD, just cps... and the rest is nurbs: basicly some toruses, tubbes and surface filets, etc.
for the rendering: maximus: you re wrong, IT IS NOT GI OR FAKED GI.... it's juste 4 standard directional lights :D one main a-little-yellow light casting shadows, one back blue and 2 fill lights...
it s that simple....
about inspiration , I started from scratch so I had no precise idea of what I would do. After the modeling was advanced a bit It reminded me about that character in star wars episode 1, so I m trying now to get away from it.... I m trying to make an original scene, so The character won't look like him in the end..

humm... i mean for the MadS picture ... heheh..
4 lights ? excelent..
To facial anim, will u blend shapes or what ? Im asking 'cause its on my schedule to start on things like that...
May the force be with u! ;)

hey ! looking great, love the body !
ptite astuce comme ca :
franchement pas mal le dos, mais tu pourrais exagerer en creant des plis entre chaque vertebre afin de lui donner un effet lombric probablement tres interessant...(just an idea in the sky)
good luck, bon courage pour la suite Toce:love:

Reminded me of those mechanical creatures in 5th element
Xlent modeling! I still prefer the first version though - the head and neck proportions call for a massive character. Your new body - although very nice executed - doesn´t fit the sturdy look of the head and neck IMO. But maybe you have a "surprise" in mind and make the legs sturdy too?! Look forward to the progress!

Man those french guys are really crazy. I must say that you model really rocks (well i'm not the first to say that )
I have no crits for you just suggestions. Why don't you make him a alien monk a zealot whit some tattos and plaits. Man forget that :) just keep up the good work and please post some wire pics
Hehe btw he looks little like a fishman try to fix that cause he is and i don't know what :annoyed:
someone ask for the wire, here it is...
http://toce.free.fr/images/3d/moon_wire3.jpg
Maybe I ll try a mix between version 1 and version 2... I also have to fix the finger, the thuymb overall...
and I ve got a surprise for the stomac....
then we ll see for the legs...
thanks for the comments, keep em coming! :)
nice work! he's got personality. J'adore son dos et toutes les petites rides.. les bras demandent un peu plus de travail peut-être?(au niveau d la definition des muscles)
rock on dude! keep updates coming!

I need suggestions people!! :)

Wow this has been really cool to watch develope over time! Looking fantastic! :applause: Unsure what to comment on the feet/legs though...
With the new changes you've added to the body, to me he seems as though he's somewhat of a water/amphibian type of creature... depending on that it could help you with how to do the legs, ya know!
Can't wait to see more! :bounce:

that model is great! Love the design. I'm not so sure on the legs though, they don't seem to fit the overall design. He seems to be sort of an amphibious/reptile guy right? so why not give him legs like a frog or a lizard's? Similar to the legs that the gargoyles had in that cartoon a while back, "Gargoyles." Whatever, just keep up the updates! Looks great,
Neal

thaks for all the comments.. I realize that those kind of legs is no good, so I will start over....

Wow, wonderful improvements on the leg. I love this character,
keep up the good work,
Neal
Ps one crit, however, I love the new leg design, but the way their set up is sort of traditionally anatomically wrong. I realize it's an alien and not really humanoid. That being said, that little horn coming out of his calf at present, should actually be his heel. So if you take out the heel you gave him, it will looked more balance.
had this same problem with a demon character of mine and it took me forever to realize that that was what was bothering me.

Go with it or just say screw it, he's got different anatomy. Still looks great.

Perhaps this was answered but I only read the first page of replies (Sorry!), I know you said you modeled at least the head, and likely much of the body, in Polys, what did you use to smooth? just the Smooth tool or did you use Smooth Proxy/CPS?
Heh, forgot to add: Looks awesome! It's always humbling to be proud of something you're working on and then see something many times better, heh.
really impressive Toce !

Hey this one is so great!
I really love it
Got a little question, do you still use the cps proxy when rigging and posing him? because on the 4rth last picture I see you have made the divisions to 1, so that means you can still change the smooth proxy?
Does it work well rigging and posing with the history and cps proxy on?
I thought it would give problems...

thx all
Veqtue >> I m disconnecting the cps proxy when modeling is done..
Then I just unwrap my UVs on an unsmooth version, I add a smooth, make my snapshots and paint over it...
for the skining, I just set the divison to 0 in the smooth, paint my weights and reset division to 1 to visualize.... same for posing...
good technique, no problems ;)
