"Eisner sees bright future for industry

By Kimberly Speight
Just days before exiting his post as CEO of the Walt Disney Co., Michael Eisner left the industry with an optimistic outlook on its future as well as some parting advice: While change is upon us -- including technology that brings about new forms of distribution platforms -- don't be afraid, because it's your creativity and content that really drive the industry.

Or, to sum it up more succinctly: This is an era in which all the world truly is a stage, so "let's put on a good show."

Eisner, who was the featured speaker Tuesday at the Hollywood Radio and Television Society's first Newsmaker Luncheon of the 2005-06 season at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, said that Hollywood's creative community should embrace the multiple innovations that are allowing for new ways to deliver content."

I don't know how to feel about this ~ on one hand we could all be singing Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead and dancing for joy ~ on the other hand Eisner is being replaced by his chosen successor. We have to see how good or bad Iger is. The only guaranteed good thing is that Eisner was personally dis~liked and mis~trusted by a lot of people he needed to negosiate with (especially Pixar) and now Disney has another chance to kiss and make~up with them!

I don't know if I agree with that last Eisner speech, that content is all that matters. Distribution is an equal half of what a company needs to do, and if they do it wrong they can't earn enough to invest in more content. But then again I dis~agree with most of what that man says, so dis~agreeing with his last speech is no biggie. I just wish I were there with a pie. :)

"don't be afraid, because it's your creativity and content that really drive the industry."

if that's the case why did he make life so hard for the creative folks
at Disney? why did he surround himself with folks that had never
created a single frame of content?
