View Full Version : Riddle Me this (Foundation Upgrade)...
HarverdGrad 09-30-2005, 03:53 PM Hi all,
I was all set to order the 5.0 Foundation Upgrade @$395. And it just occurred to me, why wouldn't I just spend the extra $100 and get a brand new copy?
That would give me extra CPU's to render (when doing 4.X version scenes).
Wouldn't it?
Anyone else have similar thoughts?
Regards!

you get a brand new copy and can do that anyway with the upgrade. Its not like your 4.2 stops working.

Yep, remember, Foundation has no upgrades. The $395 is just a promo to buy the full version. So either way, you get the full version. So save your $100 and buy some DVD's :D

Doesn't the "full" version come with more docs/dvd tutorials etc... than the upgrade?
Full:
SOFTIMAGE|XSI Software/Documentation and Media DVD
XSI Tutorial Guide part 1
XSI Tutorial Guide part 2
XSI Basics Guide
XSI First Contact DVD
XSI Tips and Tricks DVD
Passport folder including your registration card to obtain your license.
Upgrade:
Nothing
At least, that's how the Softimage site shows things.

Hmmm... interesting.
From what I was told, Foundation did not have a upgrade path. But... maybe those who use the promo ($395) will not get those training materials. Not sure.

The upgrade promo is fully electronic. They send you one thing: the invoice. The rest is downloaded.

That's what I thought. I have been waiting to until after I get a new machine (my P3 is ailing) to purchase 5.0. I only hope they don't change what is included with the full price version before I buy. I may just bite the bullet and go for 5.0 sooner rather than later.
