Hahaha.. I think we should start a petition to officially call this the "Giant Fish Attack Challenge" :deal:
Very nice. It has a Moby Dick feel to it. Definitely my favorite amongst the three concepts.

Aplologies if this is too close to some other entries. I would like to keep with the sea monster theme for now and see if I can make it a little more original.
Thanks.

Here's a variation on the fish theme, with guys on jetski's. At least these guys have a chance to escape.

Thanks.
It doesn't really matter if it's similar in concept to other pieces. It should be interesting to see different people's visions for a common concept. I'm just surprised that so many people chose to do fish (myself included).
Best of luck.

Thanks for that, I'll keep going on it. I remember drawing a seamonster attacking a ship when I was just a kid, so I thought it might be interesting to do it again now that I'm all grown up.

So here is a new idea. I thought it might be fun to play with the cliche of a giant creature attacking a famous landmark. This will be a challenge because my people drawing skills are not what they could be. Any comment are welcome. Does the pose of the lobster work, does it look like a lobster?

Thanks for the feedback. I am excited about this idea. I think the key to the success of the image will largely be to do with how the people in the foreground turn out. I'd like to try to exagerate the whacky carnival like atmosphere that often ensues when mobs gather to witness a spectacle.

Hi Sean, I think I like your drawing style pretty well. The second rendition of the monster fish had alot of power, but I can see why you might have decided to look for something different in your concept.
I think the lobster post looks beleivable, and like a lobster. The first thought I had when i saw the picture being taken, was of a family trying to take a photo, and the next thing you know the cameraman's mouth is agape at the huge lobster climbing up from the water. Then I noticed the choppers and the rest of the characters.
I don't know if it is too beleivable with the carnavale atmosphere. I do applaud different ideas, and that idea IS different. I think that even more morbid would be to have two entreprenuers who have set up a turnstyle to take money in exchange for using the land-scope to view the lobster. Of course I'd like to insenuate that doom was headed their way. But that's me.

ok so here's an alternative idea that keeps allot of what seems to work in the previous version but hopefully adds another layer which makes it more interesting.
At first I'm hoping the viewer is slightly confused by the image before realising that the dramatic event in the background is in fact just a mural. The shadows cast by the charaters and the window in the top right would be subtle enough that it might take a couple of seconds to register.
I like the twist on the new theme. It makes it a little different and yet still maintains the spectacular feel :)

So I took out the people in the foreground and went with a straighforward approach. I made it night time to see if that is more dramatic. Something is missing though. Maybe we are too far away from the action.

Okay, now the blacks are black and everything is slightly more contrasty which seems to help. I also added more spotlights.

I liked this one already when I saw the first sketches. Very dynamic and spectecular, reminds me a bit of those old king-kong like monster movies (which is a good thing in my opinion).
Maybe it is the JPEG format, but I think that if you made the lines a little more sharper and add even more details to the brigde, ships etc. that it would look even better.
Like the falling car by the way :)

Hi Sean! I very much like your idea  Last sketch is very good! Only, I think, that it is necessary to understand with color and light :) The sky should be more dark (in fact night? Or I have not understood something?) and on Horizon, there should be light from city.. And a luminescence any behind mountains to clean - it distracts.. (but it only my opinion)
And so all very much, is very class!
Good Luck!
Excuse for bad English
Yours faithfully LexLe :)

Thanks for those crits and comments.
ChrisThatGuy: It's funny how easy it is to miss the obvious.
yoitisi: This is just a low res color test so there isn't allot of detail but I agree there would ultimately need to be allot more detail, especially in the bridge.
Lexle: Thanks for those points. I guess I was going for a night time scene with allot of light play on the fog from various spotlights but I think the bright area on top and the orange glow over the distant hills is too distracting.
cyberarts:Thanks!
So after all that I've grown a little disillusioned with this whole idea. I might try to do some sketches where we are on the bridge with cars flying through the air or I may change the idea altogether.

This idea clearly meets the Spectacular concept of the competition.
The composition is excellent and I like how it is lit.
I think that it is time to develop the detail of the lobster, the bridge and the boats, with most detail being devoted to the lobster. There is great opportunity for creating the scaley red glistening, somewhat repugnant (unless you like lobster!) nature of the creature. Perhaps the eyes need to become a focal point, conveying anger, for whatever reason the creature hates bridges.
Maybe, as was commented elsewhere, the city lights could be smaller sharper and more numerous, as is probably the real case at the Golden Gate, where I assume this is set.
The lighting is excellent, in my opinion, with one qualification, which is that there might be more reflected light back to the boats (i.e. some more detail).
A few digital photos as a reference source for detail would probably help you for the lobster, with a visit to the local fish market. Reference material for the bridge and boat require a visit to some coastal city.
I suppose all these materials are easily referenced on the web also.
This picture is good and will get better as you go.

Maol Muire: Thanks for the feedback, those are all good points.
So I added some smoke, scaled the car, added a couple more helicopters and subdued some bright areas. This was a last attempt to see if I can make this work but right now I think I may abandon this particular angle or even the idea. I would welcome any advice on ways to make the image more spectacular or any comments for that matter.
