View Full Version : Chromalusion texture?
Vogeler 09-29-2005, 06:44 PM Hey, I'm new at this whole 3d thing and I'd like to wow my instructor with a model of my car, which has flames across it done with a special paint. I'm looking to recreate the effects of chromalusion paints (see http://www.r-man.com/images/ebay/chromalusion_eclipse2.jpg or http://www.mcguirescollision.com/images/chromalusion_truck.jpg for example). Basically, it's a metallic paint that changes colors based on the light and angle you're viewing it at. I've done a search and all I can find are things along the lines of http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/152360 which is close. However, that's only one base color from what I can tell. Is there any tutorial or plug-in out there that can help me do two (preferably three)?
Thanks for any help!

Hope i can help...
If you're using Mental Ray with 3DS Max, you could try to read this :

You can download the shader on the first page of the thread.
I think the same kind of shader can be found for others 3D softwares too.
Sorry for my english... ;)

What software are you using? Max has a texture called "Gradient Ramp", which can be set to to 'Normal" mode, which will map the gradient based on the normal of the face it's shading. So you could do as many colors are you want, and it would shift between them based on the angle of the camera to your car, which is exactly what you want.

I'll take a look at both of those things. Thanks again for your help.
