My project is PAL 720x576 pixel aspect ratio 1.067. I'm importing an image sequence from maya that is 720x288(half height for split screen), the properties in AE recognise it as 720 wide but on the screen it is only 700x288, outside safe margin but still inside project resolution. I thought it was a pixel aspect ratio thing but changing this hasnt made any difference, anyone know why has it lost width?

in the project window, right click on the footage and interperet footage. Check the pixel aspect ratios in the dialog which pops up.

I've rerendered with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.07, and this is the same in the AE project and when its imported. It seems to have only affected this batch render, from 1 particular camera, when i bring in a sequence from the same scene(with the same render globals) but a different camera it fits fine. I'll just duplicate the camera, re-render and pretend it never happened.:)

okey.... guess stuff like that just happens sometimes.

Your rendering as fields, so it is rendering 2 frames per frame, each is every other line of your render. Either render as full frame, or field assemble your files.

Beaker is right

You render your scenes just as field but didn set the render output to both on the maya global settings thats why you just get the files of 720 * 288 because its just one field and not frame

if you select on the global render setting in maya for both output the frame it will render the frame also just in field resolution to 720*288 in 2 steps first even and then odd but after the render it will merge the 2 fields to frame and this will be the end resolution to D1 720*576 even and odd in the same frame to your hdd

:) there we go... why do you need this functionality rendering fields seperately?

hmm thats a good question

todays there dont need anymore the field separetly but if i remember correct when i was working with alias composer there it used the field seperatly to make any fx and manipulation on some image seq and after you composed it to the final output frame (even&odd)
also some edit software like shake can still use the fields separatly to manipulate any filter on your seq
it give's just a better quality out of your fx or filter your using on any animation

Ok, thx for explaining... I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to dealing with and understanding fields, so most of that I think managed to sink in. :)
