View Full Version : NormalImageMapper Plugin for AE?
starsoul 09-28-2005, 10:51 PM Is there a plugin for AE just like the NormalImageMapper Plugin for shake which is available for free at this webpage:
http://homepage.mac.com/bauer/portfolio.html => and then go to "Shake Plug-in"
This plugin makes it possible to light for example a flat render with a hdr map in post. So there is no need to render this in 3d. On
this link I posted there are many video clips with instructions and explanations about this subject.____________________

Something quite similar is found in the Walker Effects bundle for AE, it's called channel lighting. You could probably use it for the purposes mentioned. Not sure about the HDRI bit though, as AE only does 16bit.

Thx for reply. I'll give it a try.
As you mentioned the limitation in AE to 16 bit, this would be a pity.
When it doesn't work with 16bit, maybe it would be possible to fake it with 8bit or something like that.

Maybe you could stack several of these layers, some for light and some for dark ranges of the HDRI image... would be more work, but you might achieve a similar effect as with regular HDRI.
Also there eLin, which supposedly lets AE use HDRI graphics... though I've never used it before.
Anyway, the way understand it, the plugin I mentioned in my first post won't let you use maps to light the image at all... it can just do dynamic re-lighting through "pseudo-lights". AFAIK there's nothing for AE that does exactly what the Shake plugin does - although it would be pretty cool if it existed!

Thx for the tip with eLin. Sounds great what I have read about on the website.
I will check out the free version of it.
Thx again for reply.
