If you do some searchs you will find that most people recommend an AMD processor.. and depending on funds most would go with an X2.
but if i would have to choose between these two?

You're looking at Dell, aren't you? Do yourself a favor and don't do that. Bad support tech's that barely speak English + cheap parts = trouble. Try Monarch Computers, or Boxx.

I agree with Novadude. Dell is great if you're a corporate customer, but things are not good if you are a small customer. Dell isn't what it used to be, and Indian tech support reading from a troubleshooting guide is pretty close to useless for any serious problems.
I've heard great things about Boxx, and they seem to pay attention to their customers (enough to make their customers come back).
As for the P4 vs. Celeron D question--> P4 chips in the same range will perform better; Celeron D is a castrated P4 chip.
and a price for a pentium 4?would a gigabyte motherboard suite it?what do u think?

I'd go for AMD 64 or Sempron for the desktop if you want relative low price solutions.
Something like the AMD 64 3000+ is not very expensive anymore.
P4's in the same price range is mostly slower. I recommend reading some reviews at Anandtech.com
