Title: 20 Oz Coke Bottle
Name: Edward Dye, Artistic Image
Country: USA
Software: 3ds max
This is a 20 oz Coke bottle for a coke advertisment the image was rendered with a render drive. Not much else to say other than the render took a half hour, all of the textures and shadows are raytraced.

Nice, and quite photorealistic. Which begs the question, why not use photography? It's not as if the subject matter is unobtainable or required location shooting or other logistical efforts. How do the costs compare for 3D construction, FX, and rendering, to studio photography?

The reason to use 3d instead of photgraphy. you cant get better control over lighting and reflections, the art is cleaner, you can go back to the set years later to make changes, you can animate the product, if the client wants an all in focus image later and he's shot an image with deapth of field the change is easy , infact any change is easy once you've set up the shot. the model took 1 hour and to light it another so cost is low and future uses save on cost because the model is built. I could list alot of reasons to do product advertising this way the main one is the client has more flexibitily with decisions.

Nice work, I like render , looks great, but too many drops for me :)

I agree. It's a great render overall, but I think there are too many drops on the bottle. Also, it's sorta hard to distinguish whether some are drops or bubbles within the bottle, especially towards the top.

it sure made me thursty, i can tell you that much.
nice.....but something about the droplets....kinda reminds me of fur or hair......if you shot a real bottle and took the time to set up the lights correctly the image would really be alot more impressive. i understand what you are saying about being able to make changes but if you had a formula for shooting this type of subject in real life this would really take no time at all. and if the client wanted changes you could make them accordingly.i think when it comes to product studio type shots nothing can compare with the real thing.......3d just cant compete......my 2 cents anyway.....

try it with out the blur on the real AD's they was it sharp looking and my monitor is brite so i'm not sure but i think the cola need to be a hint darker it looks like cream soda to me
other then that i like it very much

I won't comment on the 3D vs photography, but I do also think the drops a bit funny looking. Also, I would expect the bottle to be a bit glossier if it's fresh from the cooler with that much water/condensation on it. If you look above the label, it looks really plastic like but in a dry way, I would expect it to be slightly more glossy if it were wet as the drops imply.

I also noticed to many dropplets BUT i also realised that it's icey, so it seems like it's been comming out of the freezer where it's more cold than a fridge. So then i can understand that there is more waterdrops than on a regular cold bottle.

i agree with the glossyness as said before it dosnt look glossy enough, but the main thing that caught my attention was the almost pink lid, and i dont know maybe coke bottles are different world wide or something but over here in australia you can really see the vertical cuts going throigh the lid so maybe bump that out a bit more, just my thoughts other then that its perfect WELL DONE ! :)

Thanks for all the comments, Were doing this work for coke so they dictate the amount of sweat. The reason they've turned to 3d is photographers cant shot this good of an image. like cars advertising photography is loosing out to 3d imaging.

Amazing, if I weren't a Pepsi fan I could drink that right off my PC monitor. Great job! Maybe you could post some wires?

I don't know- I'm probably not sensitive enough- but that looks realistic too me. I think everything looks fine as it is. Photography is great- and can produce a great image- but so can 3D. I'm betting you the greater public couldn't tell the difference between this image and a real image. The render is clear- and it get the point across of ice cold cola. I really think a new forum should be started where people post "real" photos and realistic 3d and ask viewers to guess what is real. Either that- or one of these days I'm going to post a crappy digital camera image and tell everyone that I made it in Maya. How much do you want to bet I'll get critiques that it looks fake?:)
Good job

I like it, I think it looks pretty good.. my only complaint is that at least on the 20oz bottles I have here littered around my desk, the part where the label is doesn't suck in that far. It's about half that distance, maybe less. The label part on yours seems to go in much further than the real ones (at least what I'm familiar with). Other than that, it looks quite nice. Makes me want to go crack one out of a bucket of ice, so I guess it's a job well done. :)

Good work!
How did you make the clumbs of ice? I donīt see those on the wireframe shot.
Shouldnīt there be ridges on the cap to improve the grip?

OMG, all of the droplets are modeled that is sweet, yet another insight on how to really do things! Awesome

I noticed a few things. If this were a photograph it would take forever to set up and the time to get the right shot would also take a bunch of time and energy to get everything just right over and over again until perfect. This is true in 3D but you can always go backward if you like something more or less you can add or subtract with a photo it's once and then redone.
Great image. Things always go better with Coke. I don't know how much leaway you would have with the simulated bottle but there is the inevitable frosting of the bottle as it is exposed to the outside. This then condences into water. This of course has to do with the outside temp and the temp of the coke. A bit of frosting could be cool but they may want a clear image of the contents. I have always loved renderings of "Still Life" objects. Even though these object as one has said can be easily attained and photographed it is a real test to see how real you can make a purely virtual creation look real.
